I am now the lucky owner of an un-restored 1955 Bel Air hardtop with 45,000 miles on the clock. hasn't seen the light of day in 18 years.

Here it is after we got the door pried open.

First time it has been on the driveway this century.

That's awesome. I do hope your plans include keeping it mostly original. Looks like too nice of a car to mess with much.

I sort of inherited it. The previous owner was my wife's uncle, he passed away last fall. I am the resident motorhead in the family so I was asked to go get what ever was worth anything up there.

The 56 Ford that sat next to the Bel Air is a mint, all power cream puff. It is going to my wife's other uncle for restoration.

there is lots more still there.

like a 66 2 ton with a 454 under the hood complete with hydro dump flat bed

there is a 66 Chevy C10 big back window in the other barn, a 1977 VW bug convertible. (The last year they built em in Germany.

Good for you, at least the powers to be didn't say "just haul it away" like my in-laws did re: a 68 low mile Mustang. (was before I married there daughter-but still irks me LOL)

Great "finds". Usually all I find when I go in a barn is what the critters left in there.

That pink and black paint job was popular in '55. They also had a chartuese(sp?) and black paint job. I would definately keep the original color. Is the original 265 cid v8 still around?

Its got dual exhaust and no v8 emblems under tail lights.Bump stops and some of the other rubber pieces under hood on the fenders are painted coral.
Paint on the body is a lot shinier than the coral paint on the wheel with hub cap off.Compare the paint on the firewall to bottom side of hood.
Id be willing to bet shes been atleast partially repainted/restored in the past.
Its definitely a nice car though from what I can see.;)

+1. My first thought was that it looked like an older restoration and possibly a Bel Air conversion from a 150 or 210. Dam nice car either way tho.

Is it the 265 V8 in the car, I believe the 55 265 didn't have a built-in oil filter. With Dual exhaust, does it have a 4 brl and power pack heads.

Just awesome.

What he said.

It's kind of heartwarming to hear a story where the goodies go to family members who will enjoy them. All too often this situation would end with a family member who couldn't give a rats about the cars claiming them purely for the value, and being greedy enough to try and claim the lot. Kudo's to your wife's family.

Awesome! Just when I thought all the restore-able cars have been taken, this thread is posted.

Not all families are as good to family members. We donated some old items (150 y/o guns, photos etc) to an uncle who later died in 2006. He promised to keep the items together for a family museum of sorts, and since then, his wife has been giving away and selling the family heirlooms and donations to non-family members they liked.
