I am so Happy with this slab. Its darn near perfect. Its flat and "burnt so smooth". I have lost a bit of sleep worrying about this part of the build. I have seen so many mediocre and worse slabs placed, even at work I have seen slabs placed that i would never accept. This one is definitely a keeper, one of the best I have seen. Thanks Larry and crew!:beer:slab22.jpg

Glad to see you get back to work on the place. Hopefully, it'll be closed up for this winter.

I'm sure you mentioned it before but I'm just realizing how big that overhead door will be.

Eric- it is going to be a big door 22'-0" wide x 13'-6" tall.
I'm looking for something like this.

Picked up some densifier going to apply it with my antique floor machine and a bristle brush.

Should give me some good protection from wear and tear and a shine over time.

Holy Moses! this is one hell of a build! What is your goal for the finished project timewise? And did I spot a Ralph's truck? I sell a bunch of orings to those guys for their rigs.

"East of Seattle" narrows it down quite a bit lol!

This is now a pay as you go project, work has been super busy. So I will keep plugging away at it, I will be warm, dry and workable before the snow flys.

Yes that was Ralphs. I have used them exclusively at work for a long time, they have really taken care of me on my own project!

Haha and " East of Seattle" is exactly where I'm at!!!

Maybe you'll get lucky and the snow will be about as much as last season. The rest of the state doesnt hope that of course lol.

They are a great group of guys.

I wish that I could say that I was "east of Seattle." I miss living in the 509!

Love the build and the sleds. Quick question from an east coaster here. The one picture where the sleds are doing high marks why are they on the none-wind side of the slope? Thought that side was more prone to avalanche or do I have it backwards? Just curious.

It just depends on the weather, and snow conditions. There is always a risk of slides. I have seen slopes that I thought absolutely no way would they slide, and then bam a huge wall of snow is moving down the hill. We all wear avalanche beacons and Avy packs, with shovels and probes. Its still a risk every time we go out, no matter what side of the mountain your on.

I'm heading to Hay Days this weekend to hang out with a bunch of East Coast snow-mobilers!

I watch Louis Skebo on youtube (Powermods) he is always talking about Hay Days. Never really understood the thrill behind grass drags. I started water skipping last year though and I get the appeal behind that. Total rush. High marking some of those mountains must be a thrill too. One day I'll get out there to have some fun in all that powder.

Utah...SNOW BLOWS!
Dang, that's a lot of white ****! But if you have snowmobiles, that makes it much more fun.
I wonder if the owner of that equipment got surprised by the first snowstorm, or if he just planned on leaving it there for a while?

Yeah, the whole west coast is getting snow. In MI, we have had almost nothin' !

That's not what you guys were saying last year, it was kinda the other way around.:lol_hitti

somebody needs a heated driveway! :D at least you can address any drainage issues in the thaw without tearing up too much landscaping. stay warm man!

I do plan on putting in a heated driveway......For resale.....From the discussions with others in the area that have them, I could never afford to heat it up!! :dunno:

Amazing thread hoho, fabulous build and location! Lots of attention to detail and quality work is showing through! Keep up the great work and twist the grip!
I miss the NW, I lived in Oak Harbor for a couple of years before moving back to Michigan. I loved the Baker lake area, the various hot springs around and even took a hike up Mt Baker into the snow line one summer.

Man that's quite the build hoho. Enjoyed reading through your journal thanks for posting. I grew up south of seattle, went to school north of Seattle and married a girl east of seattle. Moved to South Carolina 10 years ago. I miss the snow and slopes, but not the rain and cold. Hang in there. Summer is coming "all two weeks of it"

So I am finally getting some stuff done on the shop( its been too long), works been busy, then the whole winter thing, but anyways here we go.

In previous posts I had planned on doing a full view glass door. I priced it out through many sources and it was anywhere from $12,000-26,000. I had even contacted a few companies in China who would build it for $5000, but they couldn't provide any references, so I decided that was a no go.

So I took the winter to really think about what would work best, and after talking to many garage door companies, I chose to go with a heavily insulated metal door with 2 full view glass panels up high, this will help hold in the heat and give lots of light. Not what I dreamed of, but in the end I feel that's the choice.

I am going with a Amarr model 2742 commercial door, with 3" tracks and a commercial high cycle spring set up. Also getting a commercial jackshaft lift with chain hoist. Door has a R-value of 19.4

It will be delivered and installed next week.

I had the County come and inspect the shear wall and hold downs as the garage door wall required the wall to be sheered on the inside as well.
After the inspection i insulated it and installed vapor barrier. I also furred it out 1/2"2.jpg
photo20.jpg
Then I sheeted it and shear nailed it. And furred it out again using lvl and rim joists left over from my jobsite.

the goal with the rim joists is to end up with the finished plywood flush with the concrete knee walls. And provide lots of backing.
Flushed out with wall
All panels installed with Stainless steel screws and finish cup washers ( panels can be removed
photo14.jpg
photo13.jpg
I gapped all panel seams, painted the edges, and wall behind them black.
More to come!!

Why the shear wall on the inside? Could an engineer not sign it off without it?

So, I'm so excited for this. Finally got my door installed yesterday, and it's a monster!
image_6.jpeg
The high glass lets in a ton of light and still allows for privacy.
image_3.jpeg
This is the heaviest door I've ever seen. The installers said it was near 1500#.
Three guys over 8 hours to install. Thes springs (4 of them are nearly 10" diameter)
image_12.jpeg
And the size of the track and hardware!
