I asked about magnetic can storage a few days ago, now I'm wondering what other kind of storage I can put on the inside of my tool cart lid. I've seen some videos online of cart tours. One guy made a socket extension holder that goes under the lid.

What kinds of things do y'all store under your tool cart lid, and did you make it yourself or buy something commercially?

I used to store my most common used ratchet wrenches under the lid of my cart using magnetic strips to hold them there. Also had a couple of extensions stored that way as well. I removed them a few weeks back because I modified my socket setup in the top of the box and the strips + wrenches would not allow the lid to close due to hitting my tallest impact sockets. If you don't need to close the lid, you could store quite a lot of stuff on the lid.

There's probably a lot of shots of stuff people have stored on lids within this thread: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=137365 Instead of just scrolling through, you could try some search terms that might lead you to those specific posts instead.

If you buy the Harbor Freight magnetic tool rails and a few pack of their magnet blocks, you can glue the blocks to the rails to attach them on the lid without drilling holes. I use 5 magnets per rail and attach them with Gorilla Glue.

Two rails will hold a lot.
