Slow day at work today and too hot/humid to think about doing anything outside. I built a little cart to store things under the basement stairway, off the floor and easily accessible. My next surgery will be a knee replacement and I'm told crawling around on your knees is not very pleasant after this procedure. I use the word "built" loosely....more like assembling the cart from $60 of parts sitting around the warehouse.
Things went quickly with one little problem that I should have foreseen. The short chrome posts I used to frame the cart were cutoffs from previous jobs and the sharp lips on the inside of the chrome tubes tore up the stem bushings used for attach the casters. I had to steal 2 grommets from another caster set to finish the job.
It seems my calendar these reads like a hypochondriac's diary.....full of doctor visits. Plus a trip to the NJ Motor Vehicles Commission (formerly DMV) to add to the "fun". Nice distraction at the end of the week to take my mind off things.cart1.jpgcart2.jpgcart3a.jpgcart3b.jpgcart4.jpgcart5.jpgcart6.jpg

You can't store stuff under the stairs. That's where (unnamed) hides his weed.

Also, would OSHA allow that?

Good luck with the knee replacement. I had both of mine replaced 19 years ago and crawling and kneeling are extremely unpleasant for me. Today's replacements may have dealt with that problem, though.

Weed? What do you think is in those boxes? The knee is ok for now (just got a gel injection a few weeks ago) but it's something I'll have to deal with in a year or so. Just had my ankle replaced in March of this year.

I love clever storage ideas. We have a 'dead' corner in our kitchen because the dishwasher is in the corner, leaving an inaccessible space under the adjacent peninsula. I made a rolling bin on the dining room side, sided to match the peninsula. It contains a bin of dog food. Stairs are always space wasters. We have U-shaped stairs down to our basement, with a broom closet under/over them on each floor.

Nice, did something similar but used 2bys and plywood. I had to build 2 due to clearance when pulling them out. Stored a lot of ****/stuff on them.

Simple and amazingly effective!

Trying to figure out if I can steal this under my stairs...

Thats a great idea! I have a nook under the stairs I've considered doing something like this with. If I didn't have my engine hoist under there I could probably get 3 or so kf those racks in there....
