Unique C clamp - what is it for?

Found this while going through granddad's old tool box. Know what it was for? Looks like slots in the side might have held a tray or cable maybe? Can barely see the odd clip on top. The "C" is about 5" long.

Someone modified that clamp with those cutouts and that end, then reinforced the inside and finally painted it yellow.

The one I was thinking of was for clamping a lantern to a boat, if that reminds anyone.

That helps. My granddad had a set of these and he was a fisherman so maybe that's it. I'm going to add my photo to that post. Thanks for the link RTM.

Thats exactly what that clamp is. To hold lanterns, metal stringer and minnow bucket on an aluminum boat.
