Just thought I'd mention that the covering on the torch leads is not heat resistant. Don't let it get hit with some hot spray or metal. It melts easy. Actually probably worse than not having anything at all. At least with nothing, you wouldn't think there was any protection.

Mine got a burn hole first thing.

I'm not sure. I was hesitant when I discovered the torch issue on mine to post it, assuming it was a fluke. But sure seems to be a problem (or could be). Im wondering if maybe because there is so much free movement of wire/air line inside of handle that its loosening the screw on the lead. Or when handle was screwed on it tweaked the lead. The clear tube I figured one was to electrically isolate and second to also immobilize. Mine, clear tube was also short, hadn't, but wire could chafe on the air line fittings. I assume there is a ground path there somewhere.

I'll probably use cutter a bit more then take the torch apart again just to see and rework. Hadn't thought of using the extra orange tube, that would work, think i tossed it, cause it was orange:0. Also looks like it slides up the post so should keep wire from tweaking the screw. I don't know how much heat is traveling back up head so tape less than ideal. The comment about finding their lead soldered interesting.

I did cut some 3" circles out of a piece 3" flat bar for my cut table feet. Well roundish disks would be a better description, operator inexperience. Having a hard time seeing where Im leading the plasma stream...But clean up was amazing, a few minuets on the bench grinder. Pretty stoked.

Yesterday when I responded to jmlcolorados air flow issue I quoted the 'manual' as far as psi setting with the torch on-air flowing. After posting I then realized I was setting up static, torch off/no flow. Huge difference in cut quality/dross.

Ya if it weren't for the pilot wire Id remove the plastic hose sheath-makes handling a bit unwieldy. Thouhg does offer some abrasion protection, dont know if worth buying a better sheath.
Anyone got a simple idea for a torch rest? currently draping hose.

In regards to protecting the torch lead I have been using a leather wrap ( sold on eBay and welding stores) . The leather wrap has been on my thermal dynamics unit for 7+ years has held up to all the abuse I can throw at it . I had a nylon cover it lasted about two weeks .
On the issue of the different hole sizes on the tip if it is anything like my old unit one tip is for cutting and the other is for gouging ( suggest you look at some you tube videos to see differences)
Ps just got my ups shipping notification around July 7 and then should be able to provide more insight, thanks Sean

Hi guys,

I plan to send the bulk of the remainder today. I've also noted some via emails to delay shipment and that two had issues with their cutters. I'll address you all individually while shipping today.

After this, vacation.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sean, what is the eta for the rest of the cutters if we haven't received an email yet? Only curious.
Bill

On the way - buried on page two of the inbox - i never should have donated money to the political party, now there is too damn much coming from everyone.

Thanks Sean for all.

Just got mine minutes ago - thanks to you guys now I have to take it apart...

My machine looks to have ~8' feet of power cable attached to it, score!

My torch head ground wire was soldered on, not the best job, but should be good enough. I'm not doing pull-ups off that wire.

Everything looks good inside- I'm not going to mess with the circuitry up top, its not going to go anywhere.

Thanks again Sean! I'll have my mother in law sew me up a cover for this to keep it clean when not in use. I really dig the handle on it -

Cool.

I've got 52 cutters awaiting pickup today by UPS.

I have about 2 dozen remaining for the stragglers, two that I've pre-paid for so they can pay via Paypal later (when it clears), 2 warranty extras, and a box of circuit boards.

PLEASE do send pictures of bad or questionable connections, faulty wiring, etc to me. I will forward them to the manufacturer. I did speak to them about it (along with a few other issues) and they're asking for pictures. They did tell me that since the last shipment, they have upgraded the torch heads with a new trigger-style type. Made me wonder why they didn't present that option to us then...

Hope everyone's getting their cutters and applying those checks & fixes, especially the plastic sheath that burns easily. Personally, I fired mine up and it gave me no issues but after reading about one member's burnt connection in the torch handle, I took apart mine and saw that there was room for improvement so I tightened the screw and wire tied the tube covering the connector to the main body so it won't slip down and expose the connection. I've yet to put a larger heat shrink tube on it that I have lying around. Next, I'm going to find a leather wrap suggested by Ameshel.

I should add, I want to apologize for getting the cutters out so slow. The manual data entry and triple checking everything made for a slow progress on top of my work/family time. I've learned a lot so no regrets here.

Look forward to getting the remainder out to the rest of you and hope that the cutters was worth the money and the wait.

Sean it's funny you should bring up the torch head I was looking on eBay and there seems to be a bunch of compatible torches that can had . The reason I was looking was I am not crazy about the tie warped trigger . I have found over the last ten years or so that I have dropped the torch head stepped on...and generally abused the hell out of it and it keeps on ticking. Looking at the photos of the new one I know I can't do that . Once the unit is hear and I can measure and play I will order a compatible torch head and report on it.

Got the UPS tracking number last night. Thanks Sean! <--(root beer on my side)

Sent by "UPS Quantum View".

And anyone else notice, nowhere, not on the box or in literature or in/on the machine is there any reference to a manufacture or brand. Thought was kinda odd.

I thought the brand was going to be Moosequip, Moosecut, Moosearc, or some such brand. :D

Got mine today. I havent had time to do anything with it yet.On mine the extra consumables were floating around loose in the box. Not a problem. Just wondered, how will modding them effect the warranty on these?

I took some time to modify my harbor freight weld cart to fit the plasma, since I have no intent of putting a bottle on this little welder I'll be making shelves for the back when time permits.

I am guessing you have had the little flux core welder for a long time.
Mine looks just like that and I bought it about 25 years ago.

Actually I found it on Craigslist last year and it was still in the box/ never been set up or used. I have since bought another larger welder to keep at my dad's garage but this little one serves its purpose well when needed.

In the pic:

I see thermal grease on the silpad under the fets with the green arrow. That is not usually done but not a problem. I see NO grease under the fets with the magenta arrow. If grease is really missing that is a serious problem that needs correction.

Have anybody else notice the way the fan spins? On my miller welder the fan blows out. On the plasma the fan blows in. Pushing cool air into the machine. Is that just a preference or is one better than the other?

If you have a laser thermometer you might want to run the plasma cutter for a while and then compare all the fet temps to see if there is any difference. If no difference, I would leave it alone and assume the grease is there. Ideally, you really only want enough grease to fill imperfections in the mating surfaces and that's it. Anything more is overkill and reduces heat transfer efficiency, so you might be just fine even though nothing is oozing out the edges.

Measure WHILE the unit is cutting. Hold the thermometer very close to each fet so it does not see the heat sink.

Putting in grease if it is missing is certainly doable. I am not suggesting anyone return their units.

Those FETs like almost all of these units look quite easy to replace if they do take a ****. Someone get a part # if they fix the grease issue (if it exists) on their units.

Is that a thermal limit switch on one side of the heat sink?

Fet may short out when failing. Makes a bang noise and might take other stuff with it.

I finally got back home to start playing with my cutter!

Question; I may have missed it in the discussions, but what is the orange tube for? It says in the manual that it is the "Trachea hole" which doesn't make any sense to me...

EDIT; Never mind, I'm an idiot... I went back and re-read the OP...

Sean, thanks again for the effort! I had no issues with my packing and everything looks good.

GUY"S, This is with a VERY HEAVY HEART, after all this time, I'm going to sell mine.

The cutter arrived Monday June 29.

Still in the box. Not opened.

If any GJ members are interested in,Ohio, the Southwest quadrant, I would be up to meeting at a halfway point to save on shipping, JUST the cost of what it has cost me, invoicing from AquaMoose .

Now another malfunction, I'm in Georgia now until July 18th, I can't even go and help or look at Kevin's new addition to his garage!!

I'm not keeping this to Ohio members, but it would be easier.

Somehow, let me know after July 20th ?

The ones above are the FET (green), ones below are diodes (magenta). My diodes do have the grease on them, just not a big mess like the FET above them.

FET= 23N50E around $2 a piece from AllieExpress
DIODE=D4204 look rather rare but possible replacement CTLD-4204S.

A couple of questions. What air pressure should you run these on. Is it higher at higher amperage? What is the rule on amperage verses thickness of material? I haven't pulled the cover off mine yet or looked at the torch connection. I plugged it in and set the air at 60 and amperage at 40 and pulled the trigger. I got pilot arc for a few seconds and then only air. This is with no work piece only pulling the trigger.
