Sorry guys. I've had a few who said they'd send payment but it has been a while for some so the rest were snapped up. I've toyed with the idea of a second group buy but thought better when my wife gave me the "look".

Maybe another day with other stuff...

IRQVET, if you served, my heartfelt "Thank You" for your service!

I tried mine out tonight for the first time. I turn it on, and get the pilot arc, but when I cut, the OC light comes on quickly. I checked the ground and it is good. I was able to get about a 10 second cut, but that is the best I could manage.

thoughts?

Lonesouth, did you look inside at all? First thoughts are that the wire on the thermostat is shorting somewhere. When you open it and are looking at it from the front the thermostat is screwed to the aluminum block on the right side of the unit. Check worrying and exposed wire and let us know

Does the light eventually reset itself or stay on? Also if you have a multimeter can you measure the resistance across those two terminals on the thermostat? Also is the fan running when you turn on the unit?

Light stays lit until I turn off the power and turn on again. Fan comes on immediately on power. Resistance goes to open(capacitor charging?) when probed.

I disconnected the sensor at the board and it is open.

10.8ohms torch tip to ground clamp.

Open from torch to case ground.

Open from clamp to case ground.

I did check under the insulation and it is not shorted. I did disconnect the temp sensor at the board, not desolder the sensor.

Probably the gap on the two brass posts on the lower board. Both unit i came across were set wrong. The value is in a previous post.

The romantic hills of central Umbria, Italy,
...I've toyed with the idea of a second group buy but thought better when my wife gave me the "look"...

I know that look... It's one I've used twice in my former marriage - one was "she's an old friend, can she stay with us a while, you know, just to get her back on her feet"... (And she was on the other side of the spectrum from this...)

The other was "I know it's your motorcycle, honey, but if we sold it we could pay off the credit cards in my name..."

After all you did for this... all you did for all of us, Sean... putting up with the nonsense and pain and hassles...

... your wife definitely has a mooseheart! Or at least a LOT of patience, tolerance, and love... Someone like that you don't want to piss off....

Ok that,... (shudder) no words LOL!

I've now cashed in my chips and I'm doting on my new tractor in my shop. It's a spoiled machine!

Ok, I adjusted the gap to .040 and it is still going OC. It will run the pilot all day, but as soon as it jumps to the ground, it goes OC.

Runs off the tractor. It's on a sub frame as well.

I checked the FETs on the bottom, all are open positive probe in the middle, negative to the sides. i did not find any diodes that were short.

Check the big brass tab behind the front panel that supplies pwr to the head. We found it to be an issue on a unit and prevents it from working.

Hi gnpenning . Sorry to keep you waiting, going to try to help as best I can. Havnt had any time lately. Got the manual for the bottom board written but your problem is probably on the middle or top board like mine was. First thing I would check is the diodes on the middle board. They are the ********* parts screwed to the aluminum heatsink. Each part is actually 2 diodes so put your meter in diode test mode and with red probe on the middle pin of each package touch the two outside leads. The meter should show no connectivity on either pin. If it shows anything other than open circuit then the part is broken. That's probably the problem on yours but let me know could be other things like the mosfets on the top board also but let me know if you need help testing. Mine died in a different way but after some work and upgraded parts mine is back at it and I feel a bit better after upgraded broken parts. I will put together a manual and suggestions but shop has to get less busy for a few days so I can sit down and write for a bit. Let me know your results. Test the individual parts on that board (6 if I remember right) but if you get a faulty one I would replace all at same time. That area is a design weakness in the machine.

did the manual ever get finished ???

mine is still in the box unopened but patiently waiting

Just head back from Aquamoose. He too was unable to repair my unit with replacement parts. Glad to know it isn't me, sad that I spent $100 on shipping to get a replacement.

Just got around to firing mine up.

I checked inside before powering it on. All the attached screws were tight. There was a loose screw inside. I never found out were it went, but it looked the same as the FET screws though none of those were missing. Maybe they left me a spare....

I double checked and improved the torch and control connector as described in this thread.

The fan comes on and the display reads correctly. Pulling the trigger activates the air valve and I can hear the spark gap....sparking. Nothing else seems to happen when trying to make a cut.

Are there any typical places to start troubleshooting?
