Ok, I've had my Crapsman roll around for MANY years. It was bought when I was probably 18-19yo and back when roller bearing drawers were only on the Cadillacs of tool boxes. So mine has the old grooved silders. After building my bathroom vanity and buying a few set of nice roller bearing slides for the drawers, I want to replace the crappy ones on my roll around. I'm sure some of you have done this mod. Any hick-up's you would like to enlighten me on? I see it as pretty cut and dray so long as the new sliders are the same thickness or slightly less than what is on the drawers now. My cabinet is a permanent fixture now days holding specialty tools.

Thanks
Chad

As you said you have to make sure there is enough thickness between the edge of the drawer and the inside of the cabinet. You may need to use a router to put a slot in the sides to allow for enough clearance. other than that your plan should be all good.

Standard ball bearing slides will require that the drawer be exactly 1" smaller than the cabinet. 1/2" per side, you will need to buy the full extension type with over-travel to allow the drawers to open completely and allow you to get to the very back of the drawer.

Ive been considering this same mod to a Cornwell box my dad gave me for christmas 26 years ago.

Ill have a thread on the mod when I start.

Looks like the hardest part would be removing the C channel that's attached to the drawers. Mine have spot welds about every 3". Once the channel is removed, you have the 1/2" you need for the roller slides.
