Would of liked them moved on from the plastic finger latch to proper pull latching or decent detent system with adjustable and replaceable detents .

On the series 2 top chests (at least in the 44" size) the finger latches have been replaced with pull latching and replaceable detents. Here is a photo of the rail itself and a closer view of the detent.

Unfortunately, the Series 2, 5-drawer 30" mechanic's service carts still have those annoying finger latches.

44" always had detents, it was the 56 and 72" that has plastic finger latch .

Anyone know if the standard coupons that apply to the red ones also apply to the new colors?

The dont work on the website..

But you can always try instore since the coupons don't specify they aren't for the blue or black versions.

stopped in for 1st time at our local harbor freight store..... lots of USG boxes on display - pretty impressive IMHO in person. The 72" x 22" ($1100) caught my eye....looked good and felt pretty solid.

Not to clog up the thread but does anyone know where to buy a new rubber mat for the top? Mine met some spilt paint thinner.

Great news to read. Had been wishing they'd do a different color than red, I'm about to buy a 44".

Deciding on pulling the trigger on the black 56" this weekend...

Imho the 56 is the way to go. The 44 is great but as a solo box the 56 really shines. I use the small drawers to keep my battery tools organized, the upper lrge drawers for the regular tools, and the bottom drawer for my automotive nonsense.

You can slice through the stall mat with a razor knife. Just make multiple passes to slice all the way through it.

I have cut them many times with a jig saw and the non serrated knife blade if you can find them.

Thanks! I've had one in my hands and almost purchased one a few times now but it's like 100lbs or more and seems pretty intimidating/overkill. Wasn't sure what would be able to cut it clean enough to not look like ****

I use shop razor blades mounted in 6" long nose vise grips
as soon as both ends of blade show signs struggling cut switch to new blade.
Get first cuts spot on then follow over them, with bit of time and effort it can be factory neat finish .

can't see it working for colors unless include the item # in the coupons.
I suspect new colors won't see same sale reductions !

I used a coupon when I bought my black 44 yesterday. The coupon pictured the red one, but had item numbers for all colors.

The coupon link I posted above was from HFQDB. Maybe check there and see if there is one that covers the black 56?

Awesome! I was going to ask if anyone had tried yet. The HF manager had no idea if it would work when I asked.

I'm going to buy a blue 44 and 26 and make a workbench. I'll post pics when its done.

the 56" coupon does not include the black item# 64457 64458
seems they doing the 44" all in same coupon looks like they will at some point do one for the 56" etc .

650bucks pretty fair price really, wouldn't want pay much more unless improved the slides/latches and used better quality wheels .
would of been smarter if they done 56 and 72 in blue as well .

This question might have been addressed in another thread but why the the 3 different part numbers for the same model boxes? Example the 44" in blue shows 64444, 64445 and 64446?

Gotcha thanks.

I went to HF decided on the 26" cabinet and top box in blue instead of the 44" (simply for lighterweight/easier for me to unload and organize in current garage setup, plus more storage space for less money - 15,500cu in/$388 vs 14,000cu in/$449) but they were out of stock. The clerk did write me a rain check for the coupon which is good for 30 days. So $229 for the cabinet and $159 for the top chest.

Does the 7 drawer end cabinet also fit the 26" cabinet like it does the 44"?

Man, I would have LOVED to have gotten my roll away in blue. But oh well it has served me exceptionally well over the last 5 years so I've got nothing to complain about. Well done HF.

My local store has a series 1 56 inch box in red on clearance for $599. I offered $300 and they counter offered $400. Very tempting. I'd buy it in a second if I had that damn settlement gift card

Yes it will ... sometimes having built up in smaller sections better as way easier handling/moving in any future scenario.
I limit myself to 56" size range and rather have hangon end cabinet, expand into another cabinet over 72" cabinets as they complete pain in the **** move about or transport .
I don't use top boxes mainly as like countertop space but they do give best storage capacity to floor space .

Ok good deal.
I know what you mean about counter top space and a top box. I plan to stack the topbox on the cabinet and it will sit to the left of my 8' workbench. Hopefully my bench will remain clear and accessing the tool I need will be less hassle. I'm really sick of digging through a box with all my tools dumped in like a heathen. I can't find anything and once I do, I'm tripping on the box cause it sits in front of the workbench.

I'm really bummed the cabinets weren't in stock today, I was excited and that blue was really pretty. I'll check back Thursday.
