Good to hear on the pricing being the same. Did the box feel as sturdy as the older one?

Yes, it seemed exactly the same as the 44" I have at home except the red seemed like it may have been just a hair darker and the badge was the same as what's on the new carts. Otherwise the same.

Yeh and it bad policy for sales, totally understandable having one or 2 main distribution warehouses and not all stores carrying bigger items or less popular ones but they should have in store ordering and ability deliver to local stores for collection even if slow turnaround .
To be fair the 999.99 72" has competition even without delivery costs when look at other brand 72" offers for better finished and way better drawer latch design .
Us General boxes needed upgrades long ago but it took competition for them start thinking about it today !

I Was shopping the harbor freight boxes with the assumption that they would be cheaper for the size I needed than everywhere else. However I got a much better husky box for the same money at the Home Depot with better features, better construction and I didn’t need to wait for the individual components to go on sale to get the best combined price

You do realize the metal on those is thinner right?

I'm thinking they're coming soon.

I went in for a $349 44" to match my other, found an open box for $289, and talked them down to $249 since it was missing a side handle.

This was Albany, OR.

Damn. $70 increasr isn't terrible for the added drawer capacity.

Checked my store tonight and they still dont have the new models out in the boxes, still just the carts.

Figuring both boxes at their sale prices and add tax and I'd be at almost a $110 difference and the new box would set me back close to $500. Not sure I'm that committed to it when the old 18 inch version would easily do the job and leave a little more room to get in and out of the car. Plus I'll be wanting to buy some organizational items for the new box. Of course I'm was looking at some new ratchets to put in it too.

The increased capacity is nice but we're getting to price levels now where other options exist. More research will be needed to ensure it is still the value leader it once was.

I was thinking the same thing. The 24" deep Menards boxes with drawer latches are only slightly more now.

They should of kept the 18" 44 and added a 22" 44 to match depth of 52 and 72" cabinets and made matching depth side boxes with main improvements being quality improvement to drawer slides, latches, liners and better casters plus at least another color choice while keeping price competitive .
Too many box options in the 500 to 1200 buck range but not many with good side boxes, stainless tops and hutches etc, so this area that needs be marketed .

The menards boxes on lowest deal price is pretty decent buy and good range of sizes, side cabinets, stainless tops, top boxes etc.
US General need ditch those awful plastic latches ... how they got away with them for so long is beyond me .

Exactly my thinking. I was ready to buy into either US Gen or Masterforce's older setup when on sale, but I am hesitant due to the fact I want to be able to expand if needed and doing so on the old platforms might be frustrating.

I see the Masterforce cabinets have 8 different color options for handles. I would imagine it's just a matter of time before they roll out the same for the tool chests. :bounce:

If you're near a Menards. Currently non coupon/sale pricing the 72" roll cab is $1099.99 at HF and the Menards box is $1,599. For me to have a Menards box shipped in is another $370. I wish we had a Menards closer, I do really like the look of their 72", its increased size, and available features. The Homak 72" may be a better option for me as we have a Napa, but they dont have them in stock so I can only assume I'd pay to have those shipped in too.

Menard's doesn't help 2/3 of the country. The shipping cost for their boxes removes them from the "good deal" category.

Can anyone comment on the rigidity of the new 22" box? If the steel gauge wasn't increased those extra inches in the drawers may allow the bottoms to flex and sag more under load.

In a couple months, the 18" deep 44 would cost you $1000, while the 22" one will still be $450. The tarriffs are 180% for most chinese boxes, and >200% for a couple of manufacturers.

Ok I misunderstood. I thought you were saying that the new Harbor Freight 44" would have thinner metal.
Thanks for setting me straight.

no problem..

the husky box isnt bad for the coin, but the milwaukee one is way better built that home depot carries. If it had a better draw layout it would be a home run for the money

I think it’s the tariffs. Even if they don’t happen there is too much to lose from delays in the supply chain if they don’t start now. So it seems everyone is going to build boxes with drawers deeper than 16”. The tool carts aren’t affected since they are in a different (albeit arbitrary) category.

The good news is the quality will be about the same and the price will be slightly higher to cover the additional material and shipping costs. Hopefully they will copy the Masterforce which copied the full length short drawer below the full length semi-deep drawer. A power bank would also be nice.
I disagree with the idea of the tariffs really had anything to do with the boxes being updated. I think it was just a happened that the tariffs were announced and then we discover a short time later Harbor Freight is updating their boxes.

The lead times for manufactures to tool up to do something like this is probably at least 6 months or more to get the manufacturing plant ready to ship the boxes plus get the boxes from China to the USA on the boat.

I was really hoping for a change in the drawer latches. Assuming the 26" set is getting redone as well since it is marked "in store only" I'm really hoping the top chest will soon get released with more top space. And 22" deep side lockers and drawers. I really thought they would move to 24" deep like the Masterforce but it probably makes sense to leverage tooling they already had in place. I'm in the market for a 56" top and bottom and I would like a locker or two to go with it. I have a Menards here in town so they will have to be priced right or I may just go that route instead. If Menards had another color but green handles on their gun metal cabinet, I really like that color and it would look sharp in my garage.

I wish they'd toss the black Yukon boxes and keep the shallower red 44" boxes as another option. I'm sure it won't happen though.

I was in HF today, and saw the US General tool carts in red, blue, and black with a new logo. Didn’t think to snap a pic.

Same here... manager said they sold out at the prior weekend's parking lot sale. For $170 before tax, I'm very tempted to pick one up.

Wow... they made them deeper. That's great. Now how do I get a new one and replace my old one. I wonder if I could sell it for like... 250$ on CL.

Yeh the 56" and 72" already 22" deep, 56" would be nice option if on good sale, normal low coupon on 56" was 649 so if clearing I like see it at 600 or less .

are the 56 & 72 actually getting new models or only the 44? It's still somewhat unclear to me since they are already deeper drawers whether those are changing.

I have been very very unkind to Milwaukee as a mechanic. Still no issues. The drawer layout does **** though.

That’s my biggest complaint. They are awesome but the drawer layout is a head scratcher.
