Menard's doesn't help 2/3 of the country. The shipping cost for their boxes removes them from the "good deal" category.

Can anyone comment on the rigidity of the new 22" box? If the steel gauge wasn't increased those extra inches in the drawers may allow the bottoms to flex and sag more under load.

That is a good question about the gauge. It was thick enough but just barely so it might be a problem if it weren’t beefed up a bit.

I agree about Menard’s. The box looks like the best deal out there especially with the awesome drawer layout but it does me no good here in Florida.

I went in today to look at the new box. It is noticeably deeper. I think I'm going to fire on it. Just need to figure out when and some logistics. Also have to decide on a color. GF thinks I should go for blue. I am leaning that way too.

Are there still two pair of slides on each of the top full width and the bottom two drawers?

I did not check the top but I'm positive there are as that drawer is absolutely massive now. I did specifically note that they still had dual slides on the two bottom drawers. I'm also not positive but it almost felt like maybe the bottom drawers were a tad shorter? If I go buy one I'll do a whole big side by side comparison video for everyone as I'm moving stuff over.

So they have the new deeper 44 inch box in stock at the Peoria store? If that’s the case I’ll run over there tomorrow and check it out. Only the old 18 inch version at the Bloomington store as of two days ago. They still don’t know about the color options here either.

Are the wider 44” going to have drawer latches?
Seems like you might as well get the 56” if not.. although maybe since they widened it it won’t tip over as easy when too many drawers open up.

Yep they had a red 22" deep bottom on the floor. You can tell them apart because the new one has a way different US General badge on the front. I didn't ask them if they had the other colors. I'm surprised Bloomington didn't have them out before Peoria. I'm usually driving out to that one because the Peoria one is slow and out of stock.

What are the new colors? My store doesn’t have any yet. But I’m going to be traveling next month and plan on stopping at a few different HF stores to find the new box.

The new depth is perfect for what I need.

Just blue and black added to the red. The same as the new 5 drawer carts come in.

The blue is pretty decent .
Hope they either added drawer bottom stiffener or pressed pattern into them so stiffer .
Proper grip latches or decent adjustable detent across range would be good and needed improvement .

Personally I think red is still the best option.. I wonder if they are going to make the lockers as deep as the new 44 too? Wonder if the 56 is getting deeper as well.. how deep WAS the 56, 22" also? They should just make them all the same so the accessories fit everything better.

I'm debating on getting another cart. Hf is sending me a $50 store credit. I have a 2 drawer cart from husky that's like the hf 4 drawer now. So I'm wondering if I should buy the black 4 drawer, and just add the drawer unit to what I have, or just get a 5 drawer cart..... I wish theyd just make a cart that was a full drawer unit.. this is just something to hold a smaller set of tools for me, so it's not that important, and not in a shop setting either. Decisions, decisions...

^ yeh would make sense keep all to 22" and matching hang-on and full depth top boxes too .
Be best putting manufacture change into grip drawer latch and caster quality on the 56 and 72" .

Any word on the tops yet? I can only assume with them phasing out the 56" that they are redoing it. I hope the make all the tops a little taller top then have 22" deep side lockers to match. Glad to hear the 44" is out over in Peoria. They could eliminate the bling on the 56 and 72 and it wouldn't bother me.

I stopped at Peoria today to peak at the new 44 bottom. I was a bit surprised to see no latch system on the drawers just a hard push/pull. Probably not a bad thing, just a bit surprised that there wasn't something. No top chest for it yet.

Got to check one out in person today. Other than the depth of 22 inches I don't see any changes.

No plastic catch on the side of the drawer like the 56" and 72" boxes have. The drawers require a firm push to latch onto the slide like the old box.

No additional drawer stiffeners built in to the biggest drawers. I did not pull out the drawer liners to check.

There are still dual slides on the wide top drawer and the bottom two drawers.

I did not notice any difference in the drawer dimensions other than depth. I did not put a tape to it to check and did not have an old style box there to compare but they appear the same to me.

No information about forthcoming top or side boxes.

I much prefer the new style US General badge.

The sales guru I talked to did not know when/if colors other than red would be available. Said she would know when they got it off the truck. She did give an opinion though. Fathers day is a big sales event for Harbor Freight and it was her opinion that if colors were to be offered they would have them in stock by then. Also said to expect excellent sale prices for Fathers Day weekend. Keep in mind this is speculation at this point.

After getting to check out the new deeper 44"x 22" in the flesh I'm inclined to wait to see what happens with colors. While I'm not in love with the idea of spending the extra money it does seem like a much bigger box for not a whole lot more cash. I also thought the deeper box seemed more stable and less likely to tip which only makes sense due to it's larger footprint. It will also allow me to add tools if needed. My current three box Craftsman stack is full and while I think the 18" would hold everything I have now it wouldn't have a lot of extra room. Even my wife said for the difference in money get the bigger one.

Stopped by my local HF on the way home. Still no new 44" box and still selling the old style at the regular sale price of $349. The Peoria store sales person said they closed out their stock of 44"x 18" boxes for $299 when the new version arrived. Said they went fast. It appears if you're waiting for a closeout deal on the old box timing will be everything.

And to prove these actually do exist.

The new badge looks good!

I really want one. I work on a boat in Mobile, Al. And have to travel to NC home. I'm hitting every HF I pass until I find one.

A black one would be amazing. But no matter what color they have, I'll get it. I'm in desperate need of a bigger tool box.

Checked into my store today. No new box, but the 44" display that had all the accessories on it is bare now. All tops and side cabs are sold. Should be getting the new boxes soon.

going on 20 years ago yes.

So one store near me the 44 and 56 are gone with no replacement, and the other everything is still the old models, with the new service carts & 46" boxes shoe horned into the aisle with them. The people at that store had no idea anything is supposed to change.

I need dimensions before I move forward with my workbench. This is getting frustrating. At least I have plans this coming weekend that would have prevented me from moving forward of it anyway.

I would say that is a cut and paste error, the drawers I measured are 19.5" deep just like the 56 and 72" models.

I hope there are some errors in the description, as it states the drawers are only 16" deep and all but three drawers are only rated to 40 pounds.

The description is a near exact copy of the original models description. I'd guess it will be changed in the future.

I work offshore and have 3 weeks left at work. Hopefully on the way home, I will find a store with a new one in it that I can buy.

Went to my local HF to see if they had the new 44 inch box. No dice. Still plenty of the old models on hand though. Anyone know if the 56 inch top box is coming back?

The blue 5 drawer looked nice. Looks like standard non-coupon price is $199.

Hope they got sizes wrong as if they only 17.5" and 18" depth that useless really since base cabinet depth is now 22" .
If they had any sense they should go all models at 22" so all accessories perfect match and improvements on 56 and 72" boxes should be latches and slides over anything else .
I also think the series2 emblem could of been incorporated into just one main badge or at least been smaller as looks a mess .
HF pretty poor at realizing potential of it's product range and making wise improvements though so I expecting this be a **** up ...

I'm hoping soon. I don't wanna go buy a KRL 722 but I will soon if they take a long time to come out.

I thought the same thing but it looks like it’s just photoshopped, the new five drawer carts have the same ‘Series 2’ badge in the pictures but it’s not actually on the boxes. Same for the under lid sticker.

Here’s one for the conspiracy theory files, maybe someone has seen them in person to confirm or deny.

Noticed something looking closely at the pictures of the new 22” deep 44” box (which I think is only actually shown on the new top box listing, new 44” box listing is using an old picture) the side latches poking down under the chrome drawer trim look to be gone! I’m hoping this means real pull latches along with the new colors.
