Just picked up a bag o husky. All the sockets say made in USA, the ratchet doesn't. All the tools part numbers start with 22 so I think it's from the same kit. The questions are is a husky 2202 ratchet American made, and who produced them for husky?

Are you sure that is the exact model # of the ratchet? If I remember correctly, they should have 5, not 4.

That is a Chinese one, the USA are marked as such. The last guy probably broke the USA one that came with the set and got it warrantied out for a Chinese one. The design is the same, both were made by stanely when they still manufactured the sockets and ratchets for husky, nowadays apex is the supplier for that. The finish on the USA is nicer, but functionally they are the same.

A few years ago I saw some made in USA Husky ratchets on the shelf at Home Depot but they were the same as the teardrop quick release Armstrong A-Line or Allen ratchets. They also had the cheaper offshore ratchets also. They might have sold cheaper USA ratchets a long time ago.

Years ago (1997-1998) I bought a us made husky socket set. It had 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive ratchets and sockets in both standard and metric. I think it was about $48. The ratchets were ok, I thought the sockets were nice. I still have all, but a couple sockets. It's the ratchet and socket part of my marine/travel tools set. I have fixed and rebuilt hundreds of things with them. None of them have let me down, I wish they still had these tools.

I'm guessing this would be from the time period when Stanley was known to play fast and loose with the use of "made in the USA."
It would be interesting to know if that ratchet was in fact made in the USA.

Thanks 4C for setting this thread straight. The older Husky were all US made by New Britain. In the 80's bought out by Stanley, and for awhile was still US made but not nearly as good as the New Britain era before. Later on became house brand for HD and all moved to China manufacture. I love New Britain made tools and that era is great (also Blackhawk pre Proto/Stanley ownership, NAPA, New Britain brand, Penncraft brand, Husky, some others). - Paul

Ah, the ratchets that got Stanley into big trouble. Marketing them as USA Made yet components were made in China and Taiwan.
I remember my Dad getting a Husky set in late 1999. Came with that round head ratchet in 3/8" and 1/2" drive but the 1/4" drive was a pearhead that looked exactly like the Proto Big Dawg ratchets.
I hated using those round head Stanley ratchets...

Wow, I have those teardrop quickrelease ratchets from old time USA made Craftsman. I just cleaned and greased them so hopefully they'll last another 30 years.
