Used engine oil on the deck

I did the supports and underside of 2 decks with used oil and it worked good. Do not do the decking because it will be slippery when wet for a while.

If your going to take the deck boards up to flip them over..just flip them in the garbage and put on trex. Idk why people mess with PT decks anymore. Unless you heavily maintain them they look like **** in a few years and at least around here you will be lucky to get 10yrs out of one and have it look even half good.

My dad did that with deck boards about 25 years ago and it turned out fine, but of course the boards were from the early 80's so they were made to last - not like the **** for sale these days.

Ah yes, pouring used oil in the gravel alley to keep down dust!

Reminiscent of the old days.... you know like the days before kids needed to wear a helmet, elbow and knee pads just to ride a bicycle.

Great idea.
Up there with the municipality of a little place called Love Canal that got free transformer oil to spray on the gravel roads to keep the dust down.

Love Canal was a chemical dump. You're thinking of Times Beach, MO where contaminated used motor oils were sprayed on the neighborhood roads: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Times_Beach,_Missouri

The used oils were mixed with toxic waste (read: dioxin) from a - yep you guessed it - chemical company.

It's a little disingenuous to compare toxic waste from a chemical company vs. used motor oil from people's owned vehicles which is the subject of the discussion here, IMO.

Having said that: I use a mix of 50/50 UMO and diesel to cover my White Oak planks on my car hauler trailer.
