Sorry man... You have 48 hours to edit or delete a post. No revisionist history on The Garage Journal! :)
One thing to keep an eye out for is spammers posting something meaningless like "great post" then stopping by 2 days later to edit and drop the spam links.

piling on here about the font(s) and layout... (where's that beating a dead horse smiley  )

On a computer screen, forum is mostly usable. (y) I'll have to get used to how/where things are now.

On a cell phone screen though, things are PAINFULLY bad. The layout/font(s) make the forum pretty much unusable in Portrait (vertical) mode on the screen, barely almost but still not really usable in Landscape (horizontal) mode. (n)

The browser screen can NOT make the 'image' (browser screen being displayed, not an actual "image") any smaller than the default, so EVERYTHING is HUGE on the cell phone screen. If the fonts/layout were smaller, then on a cellphone one could just do a pinch-zoom to make things bigger on the screen if desired. But one can't make things smaller than default. I'd try and attach a screenshot of just how bad and unfriendly it is on a cell phone, but I can't see more than a few lines at a time on the screen so I can't really attach an screenshot to a post from the cellphone. This message is being sent from a PC btw.

Growing pains. I understand that.

btw, thanks for running GJ (y)

Seriously? 48 hour edit time is not good for my Table of Contents post. I edited that and many other posts often. I needed to make updates due to the migration.

Hey... Shoot me a pm on Monday. We will work something out.

I dunno man... you might have to do a screen grab for me... On every mobile device I've tested on, this thing is dope as hell... Like far better than any app I've ever done.

In any case, I've hit a wall. I think I'm done for the day. Fingers are killing me and I need a beer or six...

I'm going to have to create a tutorial for that one. Low on the list, but on the list!
Thanks - I look forward to seeing it. I have not seen any way to subdivide/organize/categorize the "watched" list, so you may have to code something - unless it's functionality you haven't turned on yet. If you need to know more about what I'm referring to, please let me know.

Forum looks good - thanks for all the sweat and tears (hopefully no blood).

What's your zoom set to? I have an Android phone & use Samsung browser also, mine looks nothing like that. On my phone the forum doesn't look very much different than viewing on my PC, no complaints from me.

Font issue seems much improved for me, so all good there. Thank you for the changes.

Minor thing, maybe user error on my part, but when composing a new post I see smilies and such, but when responding to a post I don't seem to have that option, only bold, italics, font size, etc. Clicking on the three expansion dots (either of the two sets) doesn't seem to do anything. Is that expected? I believe I was able to use smilies in my reply yesterday in another thread, but not sure if that option has been intentionally removed or I am forgetting a step in what I am doing?

EDIT: I think it might be either just me or browser specific. Got this behavior in Chrome, but not in FireFox.

This has been fixed.... 30,000 limit.
I was curious about his 30,000 character posts, but when I searched “threads started by Gatewaysysop“ it initially started to show me his thread, but then went to a strange page that only showed one post. I couldn’t scroll to see any other posts in that thread, I had to back out.

you have your OS zoom set far too high homie… I don’t think that has anything to do with the site.

So is there no way to set the style to the 2.2 default one and get away from the Interstate font? Yesterday going to 2.2 was great to get away from the Times New Roman, but it sounds like 2.2 has been changed to Interstate? It would be great to just have a regular old common readable font.

And while we are on styles, right now I'm seeing a background with some old technical drawings on them. The BG flickers and jumps a lot when I scroll. This also happened yesterday, but going to 2.2 eliminated the BG and the problem.

Please offer a true default style (like the one that came with the software) while the custom styles are being worked out. The pro graphics design people are spot-on when they talk about fonts. Interstate is not for body text.

No changes on the OS settings or the Samsung browser settings on my end (that I know of).

Old forum, same browser, workable with no problems.

Forum upgrade happened, refreshed my browser window to get what the forum software is now serving up, GIANT font making trying to use the forum awkward and painful.

Ok, went into my browser settings and adjusted the 'size' down from the previous 150% setting to 100%. Viewing GJ pages is now better. I'll have to see how everything else looks now with that setting.

Go enjoy your beer Ryan.

I thought everything was a little big also. I didn't know I had a setting on my phone for display size but I adjusted it. I was on "normal" before. Now set to "small" which makes this site a nice size but it also changes everything else which I don't love. The text on other sites is now kind of small.

Before I kept grabbing the screen trying to zoom out but it wouldn't zoom out any further.

More info. Also seeing a BIG difference between the 'mobile' site and the 'desktop' site when viewing on my cell phone.

Telling the browser to get the Desktop flavor of GJ, things are pretty good and seem workable (so far, in my three minutes trying this. LOL) on my cell phone.

The mobile version of GJ of my cell phone, not good at all.

For now I'm going to tell my cell phone browser to grab the desktop version of GJ and I'll see how that goes.

And now I think that I need a beer. LOL

So now, seeing the site, it looks real nice, I like it. However, I never saw the old one, so I cannot compare.
Kind of a shame it doesn't look like this on the app.

When I went to log in, the keyboard would flicker between caps and lower, every time, except for the first letter, where it was just caps. The keyboard would not work to enter the next character, until the flickering stopped, which would be maybe 1-3 times.

Anyone know what font the forum is calling for? I'm wondering if some of us are having issues due to whatever font pack was installed on our systems. I'd look for an alternate font pack to try and alleviate the readability problems as the current font to me is still blurry and difficult to quickly read (browser default, no zoom). Also makes me curious what xenforo forums does with fonts as they seem to have so many readability issues. Seems no matter who changes over to xenforo the first complaints is always about text readability.

I don’t know how to do a screen shot on my iPad lol so I just took a picture. When I clicked on the first thread in the first picture , it acted properly at first. But then switched to what you see in the second picture. I can scroll up and down on that post, but nothing else.1F445398-BE56-4B41-8086-09BC1E19979A.jpegA562C88A-9718-41FE-B44E-05B48A5C3DCD.jpeg

that’s the iPad “reader view”. That’s a setting on your iPad… has nothing to do with the site. Details here:

Did the font change size again? Trying in a couple browsers and it seems abnormally large to me. Quoted text seems about spot on, but the rest is looking huge.

Maybe a silly request - but is there a way with inserting images to default the size to something smaller and then have to deliberately re-size it larger it in the post?

When I added pics I had to re-size them to be smaller, which is an awesome feature by the way, but is it possible to have them start out at a reasonable/smaller size? It seems like they start out quite large and I'm guessing not everyone is going to bother to (or know they can) shrink them down.

To put it another way, it's more readable if they are reasonably sized, and more of them would be reasonably sized if that was the lazy thing (default) as opposed to requiring effort (having to shrink them once they're inserted).

Case in point, the "Show your new tool arrivals" thread. One of my favs, but the last page is brutal at the moment.

Just my $.02

For the suggestion box: Editing older posts has value. My anecdotal evidence is that I am working through replacing 4 years of picture links that were lost when Fototime went under this past March. It seems I now can't finish that task, even if it is an unbelievable PITA. Others may have similar issues.

Love this new font.

All is well with layout and general functionality on an iPhone and a MacBook running Chrome and Firefox FWIW!

I perfectly understand the various reasons to have a time limit for editing in discussion areas but what happens with the Classifieds now? We can no longer edit the original post to mark items sold or drop in price. Is it possible to eliminate the edit time limit just for the Classifieds? Also we can no longer reply to our own Classified threads to bump them or add items, etc.

I don't sell much here but I do have one item up right now that I haven't bumped in a while. Found this out when I tried to do that.

Is it possible to compromise on editing between the person who started the thread vs. everyone else? That is, the person who starts the thread can keep editing their own posts within that thread, but anyone else replying would have the 48 hour cap.

That would solve for the classifieds as well as what FrankLee was talking about with his drill press thread and the contents page, no?

Just an idea, though I'm not sure how feasible that is technically.

I will fix that in the next week or so... I am working on the heavy parts still. We opened the forum a little early.
Is User CP coming back? I would search my pictures attachments before uploading new pics.

Try surfing without using Tapatalk. Ryan is having issues with them

Some members are using it with no issues but I'm wondering if it creating issues for others.

First time testing multi-quote...
See my post above regarding Tapatalk. ... meant to multi quote but im still learning myself.
Test 2...

Hit the quote button on each post intended for quotation.
In the reply box, hit "Insert Quotes..." button. On desktop, its down by the "Attach files" button.
Works good. But it doesnt allow one to insert text before the first quote, only after.
More logical than VB.

When ADVRider went to ZF there was a big push to go away from tapatalk because ZF supposedly made it unnecessary. I think a lot of users were using TT to manage attachments, though, rather than for usability. I don’t use TT myself.

Back on the PC before I head out to class.

Ryan,
I think the square avatars, with join date, messages and locations look good. They take up a bit of room but it makes the rest of the comments/post appear more of a normal size like the VB version of GJ.

Yes, the text might look "huge" but if it's a happy median to work with the mobile desk top version, I'd say leave it where it is for the time being.
