$250 to go fast. $500-ish if you can deal with lowballers and "is this still available?" Im unsure of the brand. But the size of the box alone im seeing everywhere for no less than $500. Just based off of the amount of drawers. Nice set up though. Shouldn't have trouble selling it. It may be worth more. In my area down south US. Im seeing these sizes for 500 to 600.

He got it "a decade ago" key word: decade ago.... my nuts were 3 inches less saggy a decade ago and a coke didnt cost me 3 dollars from a vending machine either. Times have changed. I bet you could polish it a little better and squeeze $300 fast. Some young mechanics may rip your arm off for it. My motto is always sell it fast for cheaper because I just can't deal with "will you take less" for 2 weeks on FB messenger. I just post what im selling for 25 percent cheaper than everyone else and handle my business quickly.

I’m buying not selling but thanks for the values. They also have this Husky up for sale that is up for sale and currently at $125 and the Waterloo is at $25 but time will tell. IMG_4729.jpeg

$300 is 1/2 to 3/4 to a HF tool chest. You'd be a fool to pay that much for one of those style toolboxes

You should see the fools in my area then. I agree. I have a 4 drawer craftsman with the wooden table topper that I got BRAND NEW from lowes for $47. It was the display. I passed by it on a Wednesday night with my wife.. I had a buggy full of tools that were on my "need to get list" and I was up in the low $200's already and my wife was already fuming. When I saw the yellow discount sticker for 47 dollars. I placed my hand on it and told my wife I wasn't taking my hand off of the display. She argued me and told me "go put the buggy tools back and you can get it" I responded with "like hell I will, I've never found money on the ground and every scratch off ticket is a bust....but I finally just got lucky... go find the manager and ask if this is for real"
They let me buy it and I still have it 2 years later lol.
My point is that hell no, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for a toolbox unless it was one of those MEGA ones with the work zone and charger docks with an led light 😆

I’d have bought that in heart beat too! Good job. 👍

that black Husky maybe be like $350 ish. the red one looks like the small kind that uses the drop in bars to lock it. People usually sell those for $50-$100. Canadian prices.
I’m going to watch for it. I don’t lock my boxes but I do have the keys somewhere. 😂

Probably worth $200, I won’t pay that but would do $100.

I wouldn't take the red one for free. It looks nearly identical to the low end Craftsman homeowner stack my dad bought on clearance at Sears for $89 many years ago that I have.

It even has the same wonky drawer mine does. On mine, the slide mount is broken and not worth fixing.

WTF are you guys when I'M trying to unload some old toolbox?
That dinky Waterloo box would really struggle to bring $100 around here. If in need for something this size I'd pay $50. Sadly, if it wore a Craftsman badge instead of its actual maker's it would bring a hondo all day.
The Husky box is good value at the ask.

Both boxes are in an auction. The Husky is at $125 bid the Waterloo $25 bids.
Are you saying due to brand recognition a Craftsman will be worth more?

Absolutely. It has been demonstrated to me over and over as I've sold off either tools of my own, those inherited or that came to me in filled toolboxes.
Lots of looking down one's nose at Craftsman around here, more for its proletariat nature than quality if you ask me, but the name still sells. Make what you like of that.

Yep sadly here in NE Ohio, most buyers are cheapskates. You can post an item that's $500 new and only ask $225 for a mint example of it and still get idiotic offers like "um hey I am out of work at the moment but I can trade you a nice home tattoo kit that was never used and I can toss in $40 cash".

Well, this thread is certainly timely, @Miss the Pontiacs.
I cannot repair the garage door spring until I can get to it.
I have too much **** in the way, so I decided to move the largest obstacle out of the way yesterday.
I had my buddy help me move it outside, and I cleaned it up a little bit.
And it looks a bit similar to your first "Waterloo" post at the top:
Craftsman 3 pc tool cabinet 041726 01.jpg
So... is this also a "Waterloo" made box?
The metal doesn't seem as thick as the other two large Craftsman top boxes I have here, and the drawer slides are a bit fiddly on a couple of the drawers. I am only able to find ONE identifying mark on this set anywhere - a sticker inside one of the drawers on the lower unit.
(photo below)
I posted this on CL a couple hours ago - with a price that may be wishful thinking on my part, but honestly the prices on these things are all over the map: My buddy and I were looking at prices yesterday on CL, "Offer Up" and "Facebook Marketplace", and there just is no making sense of any of it - some are empty, some are loaded with high-end stuff, some are full of bent rusty screwdrivers and broken hacksaws. I cannot see ANY sort of pattern at all - only chaos.

Same with Ford and GM... Most people are ignorant (dictionary meaning).

I just revised the ad $300 OBO went up 4 hours ago no bites yet.
I have more of these I'm thinking of dumping as well. Can't even walk through the garage any more, let alone get the door opened.

^ That ad right there shows the difficulty in trying to assess "market value".
There's a bottom only - no tools - with rust on it - and he's asking $100.
My buddy tells me I'm too high at $300 on my three-piece stack in cherry condition.
Go figure.
Be nice to be able to do an apples-to-apples, but clearly no such thing exists.

That box, in this area (Detroit metro), would go $100-150 tops.
Some young mechanics may rip your arm off for it.
I don’t think so. I don’t see how a mechanic or even a lube tech would work out of that for even a week. After that week, they would be running to Harbor Freight or the Snapon truck for a 6 drawer cart or a bigger box.

That box is an ergonomic nightmare for all day everyday use. That is a home garage or basement box at best.

You guys are funny. The original box pictured with broken bottom top chest drawer isn't worth more than $50 if that :wtf: that's a homeowners series box that appeared in sears black Friday sales in days gone by. Look how small the casters are, look how small the top boxes are compared to the bottom cart. Waterloo made most craftsman tool boxes but, the homeowner series wasn't their finest work.

where is the "broken bottom top chest drawer"? :headscrat
(I am not seeing what you're referring to.)

Yesterday, on local CL, a Craftsman BLACK rolling two-piece set was posted at about 8:00 am. Top and bottom only. Black. No stickers. Looked pretty new. Priced at $250. Was gone at 7:00 pm.

I am honestly not sure if I'm even in the ballpark, or if I'm high or low.

ahh... okay.. wasn't sure what you were talking about.
I have a top chest box with a drawer like that and was told to simply remove the drawer (using a broken hacksaw blade) and put it back on the rails.
A couple of the lower drawers on this 3-piece set of mine are "fiddly", but none of them are out of whack (collapsed) like that one above in the first image. Just... "fiddly". I would assume that some sort of spray lubricant might remedy that, but I didn't want to spray **** all over a cabinet I'd just spent two hours washing down.

Honestly, I am considering dumping all of these damn boxes and just keeping the big "U.S. General" unit that's still out in the living room. If I'm not mistaken, the construction on that unit is better than these Craftsman numbers.
I would think that ANY top box in reasonably decent condition would fetch at minimum $50 bucks, perhaps more.
After the last property tax assessment, it's clear that I'm going need to move.

I've sold similar low line Craftsman rollers cabinets like I posted above for $50 and that took a while.
I recently picked up another similar to those we are discussing that I wanted to set my road box on while in the shop. Road box is an old Snappy with medium load of tools, maybe 150# all in. I won't set it on this flimsy homeowner grade C-man for fear it will collapse when moving it. It is serving now simply as a mobile table and will make its appearance in an overpriced Craigslist ad of my own soon enough.

You may be better served selling those 4 dr chests separately, they are a nice size for many. I'd shoot for $100 per and be quite happy with $75 They have more value than that cheapie roll cab which I think brings the whole deal down a bit. Presenting those top compartment chests stacked isn't helping. Another label on those same boxes? Cut the price down considerably. Not fair but just is.
So, unfamiliar with your market as I am I tend to agree with your friend. Go to HF or a big box store and see what $300 will buy. That said, some folks still figure a Craftsman box is a Craftsman box this being same quality as their better offerings. Good luck

this one has lingered and lingered
This late 60's/early 70's one has been listed for a month, if it were in my backyard I'd own it, these were well built(make the ones we are discussing look like a booger) and if you can live with friction slides will serve well;
Note the 10X price difference for similar boxes

That's $100 box around here and the ads stay up forever which I take means they don't sell.

Local Harbor Freight is constantly sold out of all smaller boxes.

AHH! I had not even considered breaking up "the set", but that is an interesting option. (y)

Okay.... definitely hadn't considered that either, but I certainly don't want to be stuck trying to peddle off just a bottom roller, although unloading both tops - even at $75 a unit - more than covers my initial cost on these.
Another label on those same boxes? Cut the price down considerably. Not fair but just is.
^ I'm not following you here at all. "Same label"? Not sure what you mean there.
Local Harbor Freight
That's not much help when you don't have your location noted in your profile. ;)
I live in Tacoma, Washington. The 115th largest city in the U.S.
Very mixed demographic, but my target market is the people who have money, and there's no shortage of them around here.
Not sure what you mean by "smaller boxes", but Harbor Freight store #51 (6th Ave., Tacoma) always has a good assortment of rolling tool cabinets on the floor. Sometimes they're out of some colors.

I'm going to post it on ebay just for grins and see what happens.
I'll let this thing ride as is a couple days and see what happens.
In the meantime, I may drag some more boxes out and put them on the block and see what happens.
While we were trying to get those vehicles fixed a couple weeks ago, and we were both tripping over boxes in the garage.

Thanks for your feedback on this, @Fedwrench (y)

Agree on the $100 or so price. These are flimsy boxes. My dad had a Craftsman homeowners' model in the 1980s, probably a Waterloo, and the casters pushed up into the bottom box- and it didn't have that much stuff in it; he didn't have a lot of tools. Something like this would be great for storing lightweight consumables, but I wouldn't pay much for it.

I’d estimate &76-$100.

I bought a brand new display model Craftsman lower box with ball bearing slides from Lowe’s for $100 four years ago. It had a small dent in the back near the bottom, but functions fine, and I keep it near the wall so you can’t see the dent.

I also have a homeowner’s top and bottom similar to the posting that I would gladly sell for $300. It’s my basement box

The biggest "issue" is that Waterloo made multiple levels of boxes. Without knowing exactly which level you have, is what leads to the wildly different pricing. Some of the ones posted are decent, others are flimsy as hell and wobble shutting when empty.

My dad gifted me that same setup for my high school graduation in 1989. Even though I no longer use it, I still have the top chest. The bottom cabinet was replaced long ago because it was junk. It was junk the day it was made and it was a bigger piece of junk the day I took it to the landfill.
