Valve stem core remover

not hardly worth mentioning, but thought I'd show my home made valve core remover.
made from small file handle and 1/4" bolt.

I found an old one in a toolbox I picked up that was made by the Schraeder Company

I've got a bunch of the 4 way types. Need to find one thats just a core remover with a screwdriver like handle one of these days.

Yeah, I had one of the 4 way ones, and couldn't find it, so that's why I made this one.

I like homemade tools!

My valve core tools.
First pic shows an old Proto and an S-O core tool, second pic shows the various ones I've found or cobbled together from spare parts. The C&D tool is great - if you have the room to use it. The last one is a nitrogen relief valve for safely letting out the gas in airplane tires (I think).

It's starting to heat up around here and figured I should try to get this A/C working on our car. Removed the low pressure cap from my A/C line today only to find it was a little "wet" in there. I'm told that before I try anything else, I should replace the schrader valve and then evacuate the system to see if it holds pressure. And if it does, to just refill it.

Being that this is GJ and we like tools, I was wondering if there were any suggestions for a good all around valve core tool that doesn't look like a basketball inflater pin.

I saw these on Cripe. Are they only for tires? These are called "valve stem torque tools." Is there a big difference here?

I have a 4 way and another with removal part and thread chaser on the other end. But my favorite one is a valve cap with the removal part attached. Use it to flatten tires of asshats that block my van.

When not using a pull in rubber valve stem, with the suitable valve cap, I use this one from Amazon, ($2).

Bonneyman: You are correct. Screw the body on the stem, then unscrew the valve to release the pressure. Takes a while with high pressure tires. Ours run pressures over 200 pisg.

A little off subject but related. I have a Dill tire gauge I took apart to clean up. I was surprised to find a date stamp of March 10 1949 on the inside. I replaced the Schrader valve while I was in there. They still sell the same gauge after almost 70 years. It is nice to see something so simple as a valve that works so well it has never changed !!

Thanks for posting retro, classic Schrader valve paraphernalia. I agree, it's cool to see something so simple last so long. I really hope I run into a S-O valve-core tool one day!

I carry 2 valve core removers every day at work. A little black hard handle SO valve core remover I've had for years and a new style torquing valve core remover for TPMS stems.

Here are a couple things I have in my collection at home that I think are pretty cool.

1st is a long since discontinued SO TRX400 valve stem tool set that I swapped into a new style tray.

2nd is a Mobilgas dial type tread depth gauge.

For those here who have not eaten sardines, I feel the need to point out that that tool was not originally a valve core tool. The illustration is showing you how to modify a sardine key for the purpose of turning it into a schrader core tool.

Yeah same goes for tolet paper FFAH

Now you've done it some clown will come out with a new and improved schraeder valve. Using a miro processor and made from plastic, that will not work.

And of course ******** the mechanics gloves, and do a utube demo... lest's not forget that...

Yup, precisely what I've been using. Way better than anything else commercially available. This combination makes it a one-handed operation, and it's the most fastest way to work schraeder valves on car tires.

I do have that one. But what I "use" is an actual stem cap that had a core fitting on the outside. Not sure if the are still available.

Yup, it's all we used in the shop I worked at . There were 4-5 on every tire machine
