Ok this is probably a dumb question but I would rather find out now while im building this addition rather than after it is finished.
Heres what im needing to know.
I have added on to my garage and the old garage is insulated and vapor barriered and so is the new addition, but the wall seperating the two does not have vapor barrier from the old to the new which is only a 2 x 4,now should i try and connect the two vapor barriers together on the outside walls or is this over kill. Because its only 3 1/2 inches and its wood I would think I could let it go,what do you guys think? Also the inside wall will not be vapor barriered.

Thanks Mike

If I understand your question correctly, you are talking about the wall that originally was the outside wall of the building that never had a vapor barrier, which is now an inside wall, since you have added onto the building. If this is correct, then you don't need to add a vapor barrier, since it is now considered an inside wall. If this new addition is a garage, then a vapor barrier really isn't that important, since garages have so much air leakage around the door, and most are never heated.

Ok thanks Junkman,
This garage will be heated off and on during the winter and I was referring to the old outside walls and the new outside walls where the 2 connect to each other does the vapor barrier have to connect through the inside wall to each other?
Sorry I know its not explained very well but its the best I can come up with!

Thanks Mike

If I understand correctly you want to know if you join them in the "L" on the outside. If you have the insulation barrier, then go ahead and do it but it is not a necessity. They build structures everyday without a vapor barrier. So the two corners will not really make that much of a difference.
