My grinder hoard. Which one do I sell. I'm thinking one of the round tops.

The Little Vintage Garage.

Picked up some cool stuff this weekend.

First was this Park 86666 2 drawer machinist toolbox for $6. Pretty clean other than a little paint spilled in on it.

I was able to scrape most of the paint off without damaging the original finish too much.. And she cleaned up pretty nicely!

And I'm on a weekend camping trip and hit up a bunch of sales while my wife went outlet shopping.

1st sale with anything
Craftsman toolbox, battery charger, and a little parts box for $18

2nd sale with a purchase.
2 lights and a caliper for $2

Trying to figure out the maker of the lamp. I am going to use it above my workbench. It's the perfect height to fit under the overhead shelf that I am adding and it will clear my cabinet doors. I want to try to find more. Unfortunately the label was damaged already. Can anyone identify it?

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

I have that same Schauer battery charger, I bought it new. It works well.

I plugged it in and it seems to work well. I will take it apart and clean the contacts though as it looks to have seen some moisture. Might as well give the housing a restore too.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Great finds! I dearly love that kind of stuff, and I love to find a box full of old tools in a flea market. You have some really great items in your shop! There are two kinds of people in the world (or at least on Garage Journal): Those that actually have a Craftsman Block Grinder (Everbody else) and those who don't (Me). Not to worry as providence will ONE DAY lead me to find one. The rules are: It must be dirt cheap, it must at least work, and it must take you through a nightmare agenda of looking for parts, cleaning, painting, and trying one's hardest to bring it up to the scale of all the ones already showing on GJ. A task I constantly remain UP TO, given the MOMENT I find one. LOL!!!

Best Regards

Appreciate the comments. You'll find one. Just have to be quick when you find one listed.

So I'm trying to rearrange my boxes. This might work better than having the bandsaw on this wall.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Need a better setup in the corner though. Maybe I'll move the parts cabinet here where the table saw is. And then I can have room to wheel the table saw into the other corner of the garage.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

I had some time to move some more stuff around. I have a place for the garbage can finally. My paint baking oven is better out from under the bench too. My desk leg space is better and I can actually put casters on it for easier moving when it's loaded with painted parts. I can hopefully finish building some shelving on the wall with the band and table saw this week.

Just need to organize the tools now. I'm also getting a sweet vidmar rolling box on Wednesday. I might have a tool box problem.

Great job!. It's good to re-organize and re-shuffle once in awhile. Your vises line up seem to be nodding their approval as well.

Thanks rmalkow. I really wanted my boxes closer to each other so it's easier to organize and find tools. I think I need to empty the boxes and start from scratch to get nicely organized drawers.
Those 2 vises are in middle of restoration. Hopefully I can finish them soon.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

I think if I keep the woodworker vise I will mount it around here. I would try to mount it as flush to the bench as possible

I know this is from awhile ago, but I'm predominetly a wood worker in a very small shop so have a wood vice obviously. What I do is mount certain tools like my engineering vice, grinder and a few other tools to blocks of wood then when I need to use them just put them in the vice. Works great, good thing with the wood vice is it doesn't tend to get in the way when not in use.

That's a good idea to use a wood vise. I was going to do the idea of mounted bench tools on wood and then clamping them to a bench. Never thought of using a wood vise.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Spent a few hours cleaning, waxing and lubing up the slides on the top red/gray craftsman box. I used paraffin wax on the slides which seems to work well. Just annoying that the stuff flakes everywhere when you rub it on the slides.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443584682.830306.jpg
Then I spent a long time cutting drawer liner to fit. I used raptor grab and love it. My other box has the stuff with holes in it and I hate it.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Started trying to decide what tools to put in this box. I decided on hex drivers, Allen keys, and screw driver bits for now. I wish the T handles didn't take up so much space.

The Little Vintage Garage.

So I picked up a vidmar for a great deal but after moving things around, it's not going to work. It's just too deep for my toolbox wall and too tall for my workbench wall. The 8" tall footings around the garage wall don't help. Oh well, at least I can easily sell it to get my cash back or make a few dollars.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Since I was moving things around trying to fit the vidmar, I degreased the old craftsman box , straightened out the mangled bottom lip, and put some casters on it.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682088.276619.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682130.281255.jpg
Then I rearranged my boxes again because the old craftsman fits perfectly under my bench with the new casters.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682153.675841.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682198.232203.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682206.786472.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682237.601866.jpg
The little red machinist box will probably move next to my computer monitor so I can bolt up a butcher block to the all red craftsman box.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443682321.460826.jpg

Now my workbench next to the garage door has no toolboxes on it. Where the boxes were, I'm going to put up a shelf or 2 out of some 2X10s that I have. I'll use it for storing my project vises, etc. I'll also have a better usable bench. I couldn't open the toolbox drawer when parts or tools got piled in front. I originally thought of moving the toolboxes up 3.5" using 2x4 spacers. I think all the tool boxes in one corner of my garage is going to be easier.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Just got through your thread over the last couple of evenings. Your space is coming together nicely. The old kitchen cabinets work a treat - I have also used old cabinets in my garage. It takes a few goes to get the best storage configuration from them I have found and mine is still not there yet.

Love the craftsman gear and the restorations, that Parker 974 looks too good to use now :)

Cheers Grumblebum

You do have some of the coolest stuff, you can just load it all up and put it in my shed so I actually have something to fill mine up. :) Also the grinder arrived and looks great, I'll hopefully have a chance to try it out tonight.

Thanks grumblebum. You don't realize if you like a setup or not until you actually use it. Luckily, all my boxes are mobile.

The Parker is getting dropped off to its new owner today. They should be happy.

Just read the entire thread. Great job!

Thank you. Still a long way to go.

Beautiful job on the Parker.
I couldn't give up any of mine.
Bill

I have another Parker 974 excellent condition waiting for restore that I will keep, so this one was no sweat putting it up for sale. I also just picked up a Parker 975!

Nicely done so far.

Thank you. I really want to get the walls painted to brighten it up a little and get my floor done. The more I get everything organized, it will be easier to move things in and out.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

I had 10 minutes to line up a few of my projects on the now toolbox free bench. I'm going to put a short shelf made of 2x10 on the left to put the less heavy vises/projects. I might raise up the 2x10 in the pic on some 2x4s.

Now this bench is more usable without the tool boxes on it. Especially the larger craftsman box I had on the left. Before, if I was working on a project, I wasn't able to open the tool box drawers and it was very annoying.

I'll be selling this 1/2 Hp Commercial soon, but I'm keeping the lamp that is on it and the metal shields. I will be putting the other block grinder lamp on it and plastic shields I think. This one is missing the side guards. I have to go assess my grinder parts first as I did just sell some stuff.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443750135.041255.jpg
I'm also going to put up this stand for sale.
