Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

very cool restoration projects you got going on...

Thanks chilly_moose

Here is my next restoration in progress.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445253152.236573.jpg
I only had to wire wheel this one as the inside was virtually rust free.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445253167.125408.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445253184.835139.jpg
I decided to go with krylon satin jade which I really like. I'm going to paint my Parker this color.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445253208.379639.jpg
I still have to clean up the edges and finish sand the anvil and jaw support sides. Hoping I can get it done this week. Oh, and I'm leaning towards black lettering.

Good color choice for the Wilton. Black lettering will really pop on that background.

Thanks. I liked the color when I saw other GJ members use it. I think I'm going to paint my Parker on the stand this color. Kind of like this Parker I found on http://scuttle.dayid.org/wiki/index.php/Charles_Parker_Vise

Nice work again bagged, any tips on getting the lettering painted or just a steady hand ? Got to make some time to get started restoring the ones I have.

Cheers Grumblebum.

Thanks. The duro belt sander sounds Awesome. Please share.

I just picked this up today for $25. Craftsman 103.0803 6"x48" disc/belt sander.
It's mounted on a craftsman stand with a craftsman router and router table. The sander is missing a table but it was too cheap to pass up. Now I need to find a close matching color so I can paint it.

Oh I see it now, I thought I saw a solid piece of metal not tweezers, I'll crawl back into my hole now feel embarrassed.

A good pair of tweezers for removing splinters etc is hard to come by. I probably have 12 or more pairs laying around the place & out of that I had ONE pair that were perfect for the job.... & what did I do? I lost the damn things
I now have a pair that have an attached magnifying glass on a pivot... but the tips aren't quite right.:(

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Bagged, That Craftsman sander makes me jelious, I've been looking for one of those for about a year now and still haven't been in the right place at the right time. I did run across another block grinder yesterday I'll be picking up in a couple of weeks though. Actually 2 of them, but the other will be too far out of my way to pick up. :(

That's a really cool sander!

I buzz them with a Scotchbrite roloc disc in a die grinder. Leaves a really nice finish.

Good idea. I was going to use the handheld belt sander because I need to take off a little material and keep it flat. I might try the die grinder though.

Yeah the ones I have work great. I just want another set to keep in the house.

I've been looking for s while and actually bought partial smaller sanders that I was going to use to make one.

I might throw this Dayton I picked up on a stand, with a motor and try to sell it.

I also have another smaller craftsman partial belt sander. Don't have pictures right now but will probably just sell it for parts.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Oh and today I found another Duro product. Check out this socket set which includes square drive sockets.
Anyone know what these slotted sockets are for?
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443841314.266965.jpg

These look a lot like the sockets I use to remove the sight glass out of a Copeland refrigeration compressor.

Really nice scores on those vintage tools! I wish I was able to find more of those on this side of the pond. Everyone throws everything away around here and when they do sell they ask ridiculous amounts of money.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Been trying to find time to make a shelf for all out camping supplies and finally did today. It's a 30" deep by 109" wide shelf. Made of 2x4s and 1/2" plywood. I lagged the 2x4s to the wall and screwed everything together. Then I used some eye hooks, chain, and turnbuckles to add support to the front of the shelf. I might still add a third on the front right but it seems strong with the angled support I put underneath.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445823834.137700.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1445823847.829787.jpg

I'm happy with it. Before there was just unused space up there. It cost me about $20 in hardware and around $30 in wood. Now to figure out how I want it setup underneath that shelf. I'm thinking the band saw to the right, and then I can put up some more storage in the form of shelves since I already have brackets and plywood.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Nicely done and a good use of the available space.

Thanks rmalkow.

I learned a few things while building that shelf and it give me hope to be able to get my basement cleaned up and finished as well. lol. I just need to plan out a section of my basement to maximize my storage space. Ive been putting that off for much too long. Then hopefully I can finish that project up in the next 6-8 months. Always too many projects and never enough time.

The Little Vintage Garage.

Picked this up this morning for $50. 8" craftsman table saw with custom built dust cabinet, square d switch, 2 extension wings, fence, a walker turner miter gauge, original manual, and custom rollers towards the back.

It's a pretty cool dust collection cabinet. It was full of sawdust before I vacuumed it out.

This one is slightly smaller than my other craftsman 10", but the accessories make it much better and slightly more compact to fit in my garage. Now I need to part out or sell the 10" saw.

Finished this 1947 Wilton 930 yesterday. It came out pretty good for my first time using Hammerite spray paint. Color is light blue.

Awesome vise resto and nice table saw grab. I see them from time to time and the are great looking saws. Its just to big and too heavy to work in my garage.

Thanks taumac. I have the same space issues you have but I couldn't pass up the deals I got on these saws.
They also look cool and the heavy cast iron top makes for a solid saw. The 10" saw does take up too much room and I was going to have to modify the stand to get it to roll around easier. I was kind of worried about moving the big saw past my truck when I want to use it since I'm storing it in the corner of my garage.
I was going to buy this 8" saw for parts because I thought it was a 10". I didn't know it was an 8" until I brought it home. It worked out better since the slightly smaller table lets it fit much better in the corner of my garage.

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

Finally got the little ribbon cable for he nexus screen so I got it to work. Cost me $50 to fix since the first $10 screen was useless.

At those prices I don't blame you for picking them up. I had a 10 inch and an 8 inch saw at the house. The 8 inch has two removable sides just like your cast-iron top which makes it much easier the store. I ended up giving my father the 10 inch saw but if I ever need it I can either go to his house or my father-in-law's down the block. I find a smaller 8invsaw does about everything I need to do since I'm not building that much anymore.

I was going to get one of those really light aluminum portable table saws, but then I found a free 8" old craftsman table saw. That one was a lighter duty unit. Then while I was looking for parts, I found the the 10" one for like $30 or $40, so I parted out the 8". Now I got this 8", which basically the same as the 10", so I started parting that out. At the end of the day, I'll have a nice saw for $0 out of pocket cost. Gotta love old American tools!

Re: The Little Vintage Garage.

You are certainly setting a standard for the vise resto's bagged...that is a really nice blue hammertone.

Did you e-bath that one or just wire wheel it ?

I've got 6 sitting here now that I need to get stuck into.

Cheers Grumblebum.

Nice table saws. What does those cost over in the us?? Unfortunatly not many old ones like those over here. They are either industrial size who are big and expensive or cheap new ones :(

Nice shop, the cabinets remind me of the kitchen cabinets we had when I was a kid in the early 60's. Question: when working on your Craftsman machinery, do you use only Craftsman tools? The reason I ask is because I do and I'm wondering about my sanity, LOL
