my buddy has a machine shop in what's left of the former Cooper Bessemer reciprocating engine foundry here in western PA. must have 20 of these things. he let me pick the nicest one in exchange for some woodworking in a house he's remodeling. in other words it was FREE. thing is HUGE, 60" tall 30" wide and 27" deep. I plan on restoring it, painting or powdercoating it black and replacing all the dividers. it will be used to store nuts and bolts, farm equipment parts and supplies.

WOW, that is nice. Is it rusted on the inside or something? Unless you just want a color change, I'm not sure if I would waste my time painting it. Painting boxes is a real time consuming task, but that is just my 2¢

Moving them is easy. Pull the drawers out and the drawer slides. Takes longer, but the frame lightens up to something you and the wife can move. Paint it blue and put it use. Painting it shouldn't take more than an hour. Remove the handles, lightly sand, wipe w/ mineral spirits, roll on a coat of paint. It is a vidmar, they are an industrial cabinet, not a Snap-On shiny show piece. It should look rugged, not pretty.

inside is perfect, not feeling the green though. everything in my shop is black.

he also skimmed and stoned a cylinder head for me, for free. I'm going to make 1000 square feet of reclaimed pine into flooring for him. I'd still say I came out ahead.

Remove the handles

dumb question, how does one do this? one of the handles is broken off on one side and I don't see any screws or screw holes on the inside of the drawer.

got it back from powdercoater, polished up the handles and got some divider boxes, still need to get end caps and more boxes, working on filling it up.

credit goes to the powdercoater, all I did was disassemble it, clean up the slides and pulls, replace all the screws and reassemble it.

my buddy has about 30 more of these, I'm going to try for another.
