When they had a $100+ worth of stuff buying it made more sense. Hopefully they expand the offerings.

You had my hopes up for more affordable magrails.

I bought tons of the "Mr Bit" closeouts at $7 ea a few years ago just for the magrail bases. Should have bought more.

I just put 50 bucks of tools in cart and shipping was 20 bucks. Really not that bad all things considered. I look at overall price. Got another pair of each size oil filter pliers. Was in napa a while back and noticed oil filter pliers were around 40 bucks. Also got the sae t handle nut drivers and the 6 piece line pliers. Didnt really need any of these but with everything going way up in price even with somewhat high shipping it's still a great deal. If you are just looking for a 10 dollar tool then yes 15 bucks in shipping is a killer. But if you add a few shipping is back to normal. Think Amazon has everyone spoiled with it's so called free shipping. But if anyone has tried to ship anything recently 15 bucks is about standard for anything.

Someone needs to tell them about Pirateship. It's an exception to the rule if I have to charge someone more than $10 to ship, and I'm just a rinky dink <100 packages a month shipper.
Just tried Pirateship to send a 20 lb over 20 inch long package across the country - only $33!

VIM and Snap On must be trying to pad their profit margins on the shipping and handling.

Pad their profit margins? First, these close outs are sort cheap. Vim is making little to nothing on these tools. Second, they have to charge for their time and materials like anyone else. They have to print a label and pick the tools and put them in a box that they have to pay for. Tape it up and then pay to ship it to you. 20 dollars may be on the high end but still not out of line.

Theres another seller on facebook that is know for great deals. I buy a good amount from him. He has these vim deals advertised on his site also. He has the lube wrenches and engine chain for 39 with FREE shipping. Vim has wrenches for 9.95 and chain for 15 bucks and with shipping it comes to almost 44 bucks. So just a few bucks more then others that offer free shipping. Not bad considering vim is a manufacturer and not a dedicated tool seller. This other guy probably bought 100s if not 1000s of these closeout tools and got a deal. And this other guy is in business to pretty much just resell and ship tools.

If you buy a few different tools and look at the total it's really not that crazy.

Do you mind sharing the seller on Facebook? Or PM'ing it to me.

I am generally good with paying the shipping whether its padding profit margins or covering labor, material and shipping cost so long as the aggregate cost makes sense relative to the market. Just wish there was more stuff for me to buy to spread out the shipping costs a little better.

I agree that there isnt a huge selection so it can be hard to put together a cart to make the shipping cost per tool worth it.

^ Thanks! I like JD Tool Co. They carry some unusual items although their VIM pricing is usually nothing special. Crazy how they offer free shipping on just about everything with no minimum.

They do have free shipping on everything. But if you look at my example above is it really free shipping? Guess you could say discounted shipping? It's just two different business models. Jdtco just includes shipping in their prices, nothing's really free. Vim sells the tools for cheap and charges shipping and handling. If you put a big order of clearance tools in at vim it would probably be a lot cheaper then ordering from jdtco since shipping seems to be 15-25 bucks flat rate at vim. When I buy tools I just base it on the total.

I have the VIM metric universal socket set. I bought it for the 7mm to remove coil packs on my 5.4L Triton. They rated the best of all the non-truck sets. I really like the magnetic rail them come on, I wish they sold them separately.
