Just tried Pirateship to send a 20 lb over 20 inch long package across the country - only $33!
VIM and Snap On must be trying to pad their profit margins on the shipping and handling.
Pad their profit margins? First, these close outs are sort cheap. Vim is making little to nothing on these tools. Second, they have to charge for their time and materials like anyone else. They have to print a label and pick the tools and put them in a box that they have to pay for. Tape it up and then pay to ship it to you. 20 dollars may be on the high end but still not out of line.
Theres another seller on facebook that is know for great deals. I buy a good amount from him. He has these vim deals advertised on his site also. He has the lube wrenches and engine chain for 39 with FREE shipping. Vim has wrenches for 9.95 and chain for 15 bucks and with shipping it comes to almost 44 bucks. So just a few bucks more then others that offer free shipping. Not bad considering vim is a manufacturer and not a dedicated tool seller. This other guy probably bought 100s if not 1000s of these closeout tools and got a deal. And this other guy is in business to pretty much just resell and ship tools.
If you buy a few different tools and look at the total it's really not that crazy.
