I have been looking for a Blackhawk SJ-17 for a long time. Instead, I happened upon this monster S4 unit. I've created a thread for it because I will be documenting the restoration but I wanted to post the pics here as well.

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement screw in the attached pic in my separate thread? The image is attached to post #5 in the URL below.

Thanks!

I just got my Walker 884, 4 ton back after a rebuild. Bought in a scrap yard about 3 years ago. Gave 40.00 for it. Rebuild and clean up was 10 time higher. They are looking in their back room as they have a nos cover for it that is missing.
I'm happy.

Got a lead on this ol' gal for about $75 (likely a little less if I pick it up).

Looks to be an old Walker with a missing cylinder cover (I assume). Lift capacity unknown but apparently works and works very well. Seems to be missing the piece connecting the dial to the cylinder - as you can see the owner currently just uses vice grips to loosen/tighten the cylinder.

Worth the money? What does it look like it's missing, if anything?

Any info you guys might have would be awesome. He says it's about a 20" lift height.

My opinion only: I'd pass unless you already had a line on spare parts to complete it. It's missing the cover which I presume would have the manufacturer's name and other cool eye candy. It also doesn't work properly as is. If I were inclined to buy it, $75 seems about three times what I would pay as is.

Ask that said, old jacks are cool, so if you were to get it, I'd still congratulate you and wish you luck with the restoration.

Got a lead on a much more complete one with some really cool features/add-ons that I've never seen before...about $100. I'd like to think this one is a solid deal. Will probably grab this one instead, it's just WAY out of the way:

Were those extra bits true Walker accessories? They're cool either way. Lift height is approximately 24" and is in perfect working condition.

I have the same jak. You are getting a steal at that price. those attachment pieces look a little iffy to me, but hey I've probably done scarier things!

Does anyone know if the attachments are factory accessories or are they of the homemade/aftermarket variety? Either way, assuming I get this I plan to get everything blasted and powdercoated. Should be checking it out and hopefully picking it up on Sunday!

Last summer I picked up a pair of Walker 784 4 ton jacks from a friend of mine that was going to use the pair to make one good one. After looking them over, they both seemed complete enough that I figured I should be able to put them both back in service.

Fast forward to last week when I see a Clist add for another. Only two pics, but enough to see it had the front cover and possibly both front hubcaps. I also needed a U joint which is part of the mechanism controlling the valve which lets the jack down. At only $20 I felt it's worth it for the parts I need, and maybe it'll give up some parts to complete another members jack.

It seemed a bit lighter than my 784's when we loaded it up, but I attributed that the time lapse. Then when I got it home and rolled it beside the others, I could plainly see why, It's a 783, the 3 ton version. Now I'm even more excited to get it back in order than my 784's. It is so much lighter and maneuverable I feel it'll be a better fit for my garage.

I was able to lift my PU with no down drift, so I'm hopeful it'll prove to be rebuildable. The front cover is cast iron rather than stamped tin, making this the early version. Shame the cast iron rear cover is MIA, I'll have to make something up to substitute until hopefully one comes my way.

My first vintage jack. Brass plate has printed on it: Walker Hydraulic Roll-A-Car 770 series B. Base color on main body looks like it used to be dark blue. Handle apears to have always been red. The ram needs to be re-sealed. I plan to strip it down to bare metal and refinish it to as new condition. Where can I find information and rebuild parts for this jack?

I have that sane jack in a mechanical version. No hydraulics just a large toothed rack. Got from my father, works great.

I have the mechanical one too. It may even work easier than the Hydraulic one...

Could anyone on here possibly identify this walker jack for me? I know the picture isn't great, but the guy says he can't see what model number it is since it's worn. I'm probably going to buy it as he wants $25 for it.

Picked this S14 up last year. Works, but is tired. Am having the hydraulic mechanism reworked by a local hyd/pneumatic shop. Then will strip it, refinish it, rebuild it. Am interested in what the time frame this jack is from. Serial number is: 531817

Thanks in advance.

I believe that the S14 was produced from the mid 30s and perhaps into the early 50s. Your jack appears to be an earlier version from the mid to late 30s.

This particular 3 Ton jack for whatever reason is not a very common one to see. Normally, when you do come across one, that long and sleek looking hydraulic unit cover plate is always missing.

Very nice find.... Good luck with your rebuild!

Thanks for the info. What information are you using to determine the manufacturing date of this Jack? Although the jack works pretty well, the hydraulic shop indicated there would be some machining/polishing required to make it within specification, safe, and most effective. I will post before, during, and after photos of the Restoration. Once again, great site!

Really looking forward to seeing the restoration on this one.

The brass I.D. plate, the control knob and handle grip style and the absence of a light are all visual clues that this jack is 1930s era.

This pic is from a 1937 catalog.

This thread really should be in the tool section. Just saying. Anyway, thought I would share my collection of vintage jacks. The Hein Werners I resealed and painted. The Blackhawk just got a repaint. Still works great. The bottle jacks are as found. Love these old jacks. A couple of other newer jacks there as well as this pic. was taken for insurance purposes. A newer Hein Werner and an OTC. Both very good jacks.

Nice collection Runner
I agree with you about the placement of this thread
I have a hard time remembering where this thread is to check up on it.
I have a large collection of floor jacks that need some attention.
So thanks for showing your and giving me some encouragement to get mine cleaned up.

Picked this up today while grabbing a Johnson bar off Clist. Saw it sitting there and thought it was pretty cool for $10. Guy called it a transmission jack, seems like a small footprint for that to me. I've never seen anything quite like it before, figured someone here could identify it.

Have since found out this is a Walker 797 transmission jack.

I have an old Blackhawk jack that came out of my grandfather's blacksmith shop, I'm guessing it is from the 40 or 50's. I don't use it anymore and should get rid of it.

If you're using the Quick Reply you won't get the paperclip used for attaching pics. Use the Post Reply button that gives you this option, click on the paperclip and simply attach pics that are loaded on your computer.
