I think the Waltham Clock you speak of is more similar to this example. It uses a 36 size pocketwatch 8day movement. These were commonly used in early car dashes too.

Yes--upon closer inspection it seems what you have are some of the late-50s Waltham clocks after they were acquired by the Swiss.

Throughout this process I've come across many old Tobacco pouches, old cigarette tins and many many Prince Albert in a can tins...(yuck, what a nasty awful habit).....No doubt this watchmaker was a huge user of Tabacco products and possibly could be what the guy passed away from......and yes I let Albert out in case you was wondering...

Ok I'll bite - what in the world is a cannonball safe supposed to be for?

Ugh. I remember being the forced child labor when my dad went to auctions and estate sales. I always caught some respiratory infection from inhaling 50 yo dust and rat hair. The part I hated worst was standing guard for hours to keep the thieves at bay.

When we got the heavy stuff loaded and home, the real work would start. Valuable stuff had the patina preserved. Serviceable items required hours of cleaning, oiling , polishing, and hunting for the missing piece. There was always a missing piece.


It would be a shame to scrap the stuff but I am glad it is you and not me. I read the whole thread so I know it would have snared me too. I hope you find a profit among the treasures.

Latest interesting finds......a wooden number drill bit storage stand made by the Morse twist Drill Machine Co, more draw plates and draw tong, 2 scales, a watchmakers Depthing Tool, additional Jewelers Lathe Tooling, more Jewelers Lathe Collets

Still a long way to the finish line....still have over 1/2 a van full of boxes to go thru....tons of tools I've already separated from the trash and treasure to catalog and photograph......the journey continues...

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, all that stuff is pretty much worthless. Now, seeing as I had to be the bad guy and ruin your day I will come out there, pick everything up and see to it that it is all properly disposed of, in fact I won't even charge you the standard removal fee. I know, I know, you don't have to thank me, just give me an address to pick up....and yes, I know, I'm a nice guy.

Some interesting tools and finds today.....a couple of fine Lathe Motors, some machinists tools ( I especially like the Starrett Mic in its original factory wood box, amongst a box of invoices, bills and letters I found this unused check book from the 40's and this singing bird cage.

Today's interesting finds......several of these very cool fancy drawer pulls from 1873, a vintage watchmakers anvil, New old stock General Electric Light Meter in its original box (still works), a vintage Miners Candle Holder or "Sticking Tommy", a teeny tiny hammer, an 1890 watchmakers staking tool with mahogany stand made by JG Hall Mfg Co (glass dome and the rest of the stakes might still be in boxes).

TODAY.....the last box to look thru!

Most were a few old alarm clocks and parts in bags except one at the bottom of the box.......a sandwich bag full of watches

I poured them out on the table and browsed thru them......all just common and low grade watches...what a disappointment until.....

I spotted one watch whose metal case had that all too familiar look I know so well.....

......upon inspection and pulling out the old movement, my disappointment faded when it turned out to be a solid 14K gold case. After weighing, about $150 in gold! What a nice ending!...NEXT.....organizing all the tools and there are ALOT of them.
