Thanks, JoCo. The groove joint pliers came out of the evaporust yesterday and are a little more presentable. I found this huge unmarked extension that looks S-K. The odd thing about it is the two retaining balls on the drive end. Has anyone run across this before?
-Don

The two balls thing common on old Williams of large drive size. I’m familiar with those unmarked S-K (or S-K made) extensions. Have to watch out for the Japan knockoffs that look quite similar due to the band on the end.

I checked my 3/4” drive Chrome Alloy drive tools (made by S-K) and sure enough both extensions and the sliding tee have the two ball drives. I can’t believe that I never noticed before.

Well my out for the moment is"Doctors orders" post eye surgery, as enforced by SWMBO... (no bending over or heavy lifting, and that drawer is on the bottom...) - and that clock restarts next Tuesday.

After a lot of time spent cleaning I finally put blue SK Wayne box and contents together.
The 1/2" sockets inside are pre-SKWayne (they look identical to mine from SK WAYNE except for the sign, had to add one, still missing 1"). I did not have enough 1/4 size ones and those are not original to the set.
Picture one is 1 possibility, picture 2 is second possibility how I might keep it (second is with 1" socket for sizing)
I think that original kit did not have the larger 1 1/16, 1 1/8 sockets as well as 13/16 4026S spark plug socket.
Does anybody have a similar kit and the ad to see what was included?

...The third picture is the box where majority of those sockets should belong logistically. At this point it hosts the mode modern and marked set 7/16-1 1/4 SK sockets (mostly marked by PO, decided to keep as potential dirty work set), 3/8 P&C socket, P&C long extension, Bon-E-Con short extension, PROTO flex, Husky either extension or 1/2-3/8 converter (sorry, forgot...)

P.S. Small warning to people cleaning this box: I spent a lot of time cutting the Husky thin mat for the bottom to make this set look better. You can only use the mat if you plan to keep the box open - that fraction of a millimiter prevents box from closing properly...

What a beautiful set Shelbylex!

Edit....

Oh, the cheaper General mat from Harbor Freight is slightly thinner than the Husky and the Kobalt mats. You might try that instead and it should close properly.

From what I’ve read, Wayne continued to use S-K marked tools for two years after their acquisition of S-K so having some S-K marked sockets in a Wayne set could have been the way the set came. Filling out the S-K postwar box in your third picture with period S-K tools shouldn’t be too difficult.

I have noticed on some of the sets that I can't put much of anything under the sockets or they hit the lid.

Thank you, JjKk40, Don, Outlawmws, Oldtuleguy

Don, it's good to know. Makes my life much easier with the blue box set. I think I will most likely keep it as a

The green box set is most likely be the dirty job set till I get enough unmarked SK sockets of proper sizes to fill it. It's a bummer that somebody had to heavily mark them with numbers and company name - they are mostly barely used... This one started as a lonely $3 purchase of a toolbox in Western Mass which I originally wanted to flip to cover Snap On small carry box I got for $9 (well, that's how I keep ending up with more tools -
...this looks good and I will sell it later
...hmm, this looks good, may be I will sell it later
...hmm, couple of more and it might start the set, I will sell it once I have more pieces together
...well, might as well keep till I get the full set
...hmm, I might use it one day...

Will need to do some search for the blue box set pictures online or in catalogs...

I found quite a bit of S-K at this morning’s estate sale. There were three early diamond logo 1/2” drive ratchets, a really early wartime Patent Pending, a postwar but early with the recessed clip and a slightly newer one with the clip exposed.

I just received this ¼” drive set that I purchased on eBay, the sockets are all marked Chrome Vanadium Steel, everything else looks S-K. Does anyone know the history of these sets, I couldn’t find any information about them anywhere.

I believe those are probably the earliest 1/4” drive tools that S-K offered. Those have to be super rare. In 1/2” drive, I believe that they fall between the unmarked sockets and the sockets marked S-K Chrome. Apparently AA never ran across any of those. I have an early 1/2” drive set with the unmarked sockets and a slightly newer set in the same box with a mix of Chrome Vanadium Steel marked sockets and slightly newer S-K Chrome sockets. They may have only been supplied for a year or two.

Turned up this unusual (large size) hand carry box from S-K. 20" Long x 10" wide x 12.5" Tall. Never saw this one to date, and curious if it was produced for a certain master set, or sold as an empty carry-all. PO modified tray, and missing the tabs to support said tray. Probably overpaid at $10, but as I've confessed before, I'm a sucker for things I haven't seen before.

I picked up this 1/4” drive set recently. I have the missing 11/32” on the way to complete the set.

edit....apparently now the photos must be shrunk to upload. Not really an improvement.32358817-17CD-417B-9DA3-3498193CDAD1.jpegA398A8DB-14D3-43F9-8A99-2E081474FF33.jpeg3A6FB830-CEE7-430D-8821-57350A0289EE.jpeg5D84376D-3488-4E3E-BA62-5199EA5E9355.jpeg

Kdaniel alerted me to this wartime 3/8” drive box listed on eBay that I‘ve been looking for. I had collected the tools in anticipation of finding the box. The wartime decal was gone but the shadow still remained so I could see exactly where to locate the repro decal.F83BB659-617B-497C-87E6-720BCCFA33D8.jpeg2A1172A4-0F2D-45E3-ABFB-CA1531A2E627.jpeg2A4FE174-A25A-4237-99F3-D3CBA9E2E0A8.jpegAC4A4083-0397-41BD-819E-CD5DC01B910D.jpeg61FAAE40-CF52-4090-BB52-8B3F7AE985F8.jpeg

Here is a plastic handle 42477 1/2" drive ratchet I found. I was digging around at a hardware store that sells SK tools and it was under a bunch of junk behind their counter. It was apparently brought in for exchange under warranty, I asked one of the guys if they would be willing to sell it and he said " No we will have to send that back to get credit from SK for the exchange. " I told him I would pay whatever the rate of a new 1/2" ratchet would cost and he wouldn't budge. I didn't persist with him. I had found a few other rare bits of SK stuff there and had told a friend of mine and he asked if I could go back and get him some of the things I found and while I was there I spoke with another employee who seemed much more receptive about said ratchet and he said " Oh yeah man we can work something out, let me throw a rebuild kit in it and see if we can get it working for you. " Needless to say when I was checking out with a few other things he said " How's 25 sound on the ratchet? " I told him he had himself a deal! Anyway enough rambling.

The catalog says these went up to one inch, but at least there are no gaps in the little set I found.

I sure like using cut up innertubes to group my wrenches together. They're very durable and come in a variety of sizes. The double wrap around the heads works well on small groups (shown above).

I picked up this little DBE set, the wrenches aren’t marked SK though. It was NOS at an old hardware store. I will post a picture of the wrenches in the open when I get home later today.

Don, did you compress the photos in post #2791? I notice some photos load slowly, and am trying to figure out why. It may happen to photos imbedded in the text, rather than linked to thumbnails.

I can confirm this as legit. I ran across a very early Wayne set that has S-K Wayne stamped on what are clearly pre Wayne tools. They just took all the old inventory and struck them with the Wayne name.

I'm thinking that this is a file size issue. Those in urban areas with high-speed connections see no delay. Those with slower connections (I'm on DSL and 1-1/4 mile from the DSLAM, in an over-subscribed area) can have a delay in loading the larger photo files.

I received a 1/2“ drive 1” Chrome Alloy socket from an eBay seller yesterday. That is one I had been missing for a while. I added it to my others and took a few pictures. I like the way the sockets look in the Brazil carry box I received from Username.👍96EABA03-422F-4320-B6DB-204FD85FE8D1.jpeg3196ED11-CACF-42A9-8038-5CBC206850AD.jpeg13CC7769-B0CA-48F4-A642-58F4433FB9F1.jpeg
