I think I might take it to my grandpas and sandblast it with his sandblaster. If thats a bad idea please let me know.

I would just worry about blasting through any areas that are thin. You might run into the same problem with evaporust because the box appears so rusty. It would be nice to preserve it as much as possible since it was handed down to you.

Most of the rust is just on the surface and the box is very thick for a socket box, it does have some sentimental value because he gave it to me, but it was something he go at an auction or a flea market/swap meat.

Your box does not have the indentations on the top lid to keep the lid from closing in on itself, which would tend to put it back to the S-K Chrome era. If it is S-K Chrome it is a very rare find.

Bought this old empty SK tool box at an estate sale. I haven't had time to clean it up and it does have the tray in side, but it has no tools.
Cool! I redid an S-K and Craftsman box like that - both came out wild!

S-K, on the sand blasting. if actual sand I would not. the metal is thin, and could: warp, work harden the surface (leading to cracking being more likely) and it changes the surface finish, which can show through thin coats of paint. (I'm not a fan of blasting with Sand)

Media blasting many use, (not me) and seems to be better on all counts

However, a soak in Simple Green with remove most paints and all grease/gunge. especialy if warmed, (some us old crock pots on low heat) If any rust remains, there are many ways for that:

E-tank
Evaporust
10% molasses (Slow, but gets faster if warned)
and many more

I have one made during the Wayne era. One of my few Wayne keepers. It was a Craigslist find. I haven’t seen any more available. F131E5F3-73A8-46ED-B3E1-C326B0FC2682.jpeg

Don did you notice your 4way appears to be cracked?
James
I finally found where I had misplaced my 4way. The appearance of a crack was just the angle that the picture was taken. It is totally intact.

I usually trade them away. I only get them by accident when I buy sets. I don’t think that I have any at the moment. If they are ratchets I often use the mechanism in other S-K marked ones needing a rebuild.

Every time I look at this thread, I want a separate chest (or two) of SK and SK Waine tools. I do not think they had tool chests with SK Lectrolite logo

Great job guys!!!

As they say, "On the day of no fish, crayfish is the fish" (loose translation of old proverb)

If you really need one, have the means to reproduce it - I say go for it. The reason why people want original ones is our collectors OCD and preference to have perfect period accurate collection set...
