Every time I look at this thread, I want a separate chest (or two) of SK and SK Waine tools. I do not think they had tool chests with SK Lectrolite logo

Great job guys!!!

I dunno about chests but they definitely had these boxes 😃

Oh here it was before I knocked the loose paint and rust off, then gave it a light coating of fluid film.

Is this a carbon? finish beavertail set? I apologize if I have mis-phrased this but I'm not that familiar with this old of stuff, more of a late diamond logo, Wayne stuff, and beyond. Carbon Finish?

The sk marked beavertails are not common, less so in black oxide, so I would say yes, worth more than chrome version to a collector, especially a ww2 collector.

Mine either or it would be headed my way. I’ve never really understood the reason the S-K marked beaver tail ratchets exist. I’ve never seen documentation that they were included in any sets. There are those of us who find the wartime black oxide finish tools attractive. Most of the original black oxide tools aren’t all that black anymore since the finish was subject to wearing away.

Sk did make them for sometime, but mostly what come across are artisan and chrome alloy, a few mac. The sk marked ones are few and far between.

SK are first rate, and had a Lifetime warranty - not sure if the current ownership still upholds that, but a few years ago with prior new ownership they did.

Found this S-K Wayne 1-1/16 wrench at my cousins farm, is it black oxide or just oddly rusted? I think there might be a 7/8 that matches it. If you know please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Did a little bodywork on the possible chrome alloy set box. I don’t think its to bad for the body tools I currently have, a 16oz ball peen hammer, a piece of a pine wood derby car and a piece of wood off a pallet.

If you are going to mess with old tool boxes make yourself a pair or two of these:

bending Tongs.jpg

The basis of these are dead. chipped, live wire blasted, nippers, and smallish, but heavy angle. You need to notch the angle to fit the gullet of the jaws, and grind some off the jaws for a decent handle angle, then clamp some sheet metal in the jaws and weld them up. the sheet metal gives you the proper spacing, otherwise the don't close well at the tips.

With these I can take out all sorts of whoopees and kinks on box/tray edges, and its dead easy. The short distance to the pivot makes them grip very hard, and that is why I like them better than traditional sheet metal tongs.

I can also clamp small bit of metal, adn bend it adn tap on it for a nice sharp bend. I get more use out of these than any other sheet metal tools I own except for snips.

You will want to cut the jaws way back on those so you get a short fulcrum on the business end.

my big pair, are 4" wide, the short, barely 2" I probably use the shorts more, but the long can do some jobs the shorts cannot...

I think it looks much better. What sockets are you planning to use in the box?

I don’t quite know what I’m going to do with it yet. Because I don't have the sockets that I think are supposed to be in it, or have a place to find them cheaply.

This set may have come in your box, possibly around 1941. The hard part will be finding an unmarked long 1/2ā€ drive breaker bar and crossbar. The sockets show up for sale occasionally. It’s taken me a long time to complete a set of the sockets.59B1F8A5-A417-4A0B-8AF3-A56683809E66.jpeg7C5C1856-A95C-4272-9455-17C25E852CF3.jpeg
Another possibility would be to do a wartime set like Kdaniel posted upthread. Again the unmarked, black oxide or cad plated long breaker bar and similar finish crossbar will be the difficult finds.
A71250BA-DABE-4534-B6B2-B18CB75D3EA8.jpeg
My wartime set in a slightly different box. The wartime sockets are not super rare.701C8EBC-98A6-4BCF-B0A3-480A3470513B.jpeg
Doing either of these two sets will require plenty of patience to gather all of the pieces to fill out whichever set you pick but will give you plenty of time to finish restoring your rusty box.šŸ‘

All of these possibilities seem like a lot work, and pricey šŸ¤‘. I’ll do so thinking on which to start collecting. What paint do you recommend, I was just going to use black hammered because I had some but now I don’t know what to do.
