That is a perfect reference. You should be able to determine which box you have by the measurements. It seems like they changed to steel handles around ‘44 or ‘45. I have one of the larger boxes with that emblem and original brown paint on the interior. I had to repaint the tray and exterior.

Was a good day for SK products!

This wartime SK set came in from eBay.
IMG_6851.jpeg

This Brazil 1/4 set came in from another GJ member. Several pieces including the 8pt sockets, and one of the extensions will need to be replaced with Chrome Allot (Brazil) pieces as they are currently marked SK.

IMG_6852.jpeg

I also picked up this box at a 50% estate sale. Total price $15. I think this is late 40's or early 50's based on the badge? @d42jeep will for sure correct me. The mrs. rolled her eyes now that I came back with another toolbox. I need to start culling....

I actually just picked up this toolbox yesterday and it was loaded with lots of Brown and Sharpe, and Starrett stuff. I bought it for what was inside it but then I got to looking at the box and got to thinking how cool it looks.

That is so cool. Ky must have a law that there are no SK tool boxes allowed.

Here is a slightly prewar set. Only ratchet and sockets marked sk.
Here's the Craftsman version of your SK set. There's no confusion about the SK DNA. It's missing several sockets, and and the 1-1/2" socket was replaced with a period correct SK. Also, this set includes a breaker bar which might not be original. I don't think it would fit!SK-CraftsmanSet.jpeg

Here is a close-up of the 1/4 drive boxes:
Indep. SK 2.jpgAccording to Alloy Artifacts, the 41653 hinge handles are early because they have the 9/16" cross hole for the Tommy bar. I found another variation. The boss for the pivoting square drive is larger/longer on the top one than the other two. Beyond that, they seem pretty much alike.

Just got some stuff from eBay after a shipping snafu with a member here (which was totally not their fault! USPS for the fail...). Good part was after USPS paid out, I think this may have resulted in more pieces than the initial trade!

Here is a mostly complete Kraueter set (box is wrong for this). 1/4" Dr 3/16 to 7/16 (3/16-3/8 by 16ths), 3/8dr 3/8 to 7/8 shallow, 3/8-9/16 and a 13/16 deep, a 13/16 spark plug socket, and a 1/4-3/8 adapter. 3/8 ratchet, breaker bar, 3" and 6" extension as well. Going to keep an eye out for the missing deep sockets, as well as a 1/4" ratchet.

My dad still has a beat up (read as "well loved") Kraueter set that I remember using as a kid, so this will be nice to have around.

Congratulations on getting the post office to pay. I sent an item to East Warwick, Rhode Island that was delivered to Orlando, Florida. After weeks on the phone and much frustration, wherein the post office claimed that the issue was resolved, I ate the loss because the time and effort was costing me more in mental anguish than it was worth. I lost the value of the item, the shipping, and hours on the phone. They could not or would not give me the address to which it was shipped, agreed that it was delivered to Orlando, even though my receipt had the Rhode Island destination on it. So, I’m out $185; I’ve been cheated out of more before.

Ricky, I was the the "Ship-ee" not the Shipper. However, about half the contents were lost, the other half got back to the shipper due to some of the padding inside being an envelope with the shippers info on it, and they sent me an empty box with a "Sorry" sticker attached. Not sure how much of a fight it was to get paid out, but it was the "standard" flat rate $50 insurance which the shipper graciously split with me (originally was a trade both ways).

Got some pics from my dad for the Kraueter set. He doesn't remember when/where he got it originally. When was the Dresser era SK?

1968/1969 until 1985. Dresser purchased in late 60’s. In 69 they switched from SK Wayne to SK Tools logo.

Found this SK made 3/8” drive Klein socket set. Seems to be missing the 6” extension. I believe it is part number 65723. Any chance any of you have spare? Also was excited to pick up the Lenox mini hack saw.

Today’s S-K stuff
S-K stubby: $1
7mm wrench: $2
Wayne 7408: $10
S-K Wayne Tools torque wrench: $10
Been needing a pair of those hose clamp pliers for a while but didn’t want to pay ebay prices.
The torque wrench is an oddity, never seen one marked like that.

Found a nice S-K Chicago socket box, probably for a deep SAE set. The previous owner made a nice tight-fitting cardboard tray/liner to replace the OEM plastic one. Paint is decent as well, so no resto.

Paid $3.

I’m fairly certain that set wouldn’t of came with plastic, I think that cardboard is original, but most of mine have a different cardboard insert, or a metal rail to hold the sockets.
IMG_1914.jpeg
This set has a metal rail.
IMG_1594.jpeg
This set has cardboard like yours.
IMG_0407.jpeg
The set on the far right has the other style cardboard.

Don, would that set have had some kind of decal inside the box, or was it during a time where SK didn't brand the box? Or (if the box was part of the purchase), is it not actually an SK box in general?

I think that during the war they sometimes had the decal and sometimes they didn’t. Often the decal is missing but you can see traces of where it’s been. In the case of mritchie‘s and my recent acquisitions they look like they never had the decals. I would say that the great majority came with decals originally.

Found this SK box with a few 3/8 and 1/4 sockets and other misc SK bits
Sockets look too new, they look to be from a later era than the box....
I will do some research and see if this hypothesis holds

Some sets captured from the new catalog. I believe that bmwrd0 recently found a box from the bottom set.

At the bottom of that page, the Carb-O-Mang socket set...what does Mang refer to?

It must mean something...?

Like those deep socket holders in line with all the other sockets.
