I think I have most of the 1/2" drive to put this 4218 set back together.

20231002_114208 (002).jpgSK-4218_1953.JPG

I have all the listed sockets plus a few others (The ones in the tray are 3/8, I just didn't want to empty the tray). I'm sure the extra sizes weren't originally in the box, but some of the others may have been replacements for worn/broken sockets as they just 'look' a little different, but I can't be positive. I found a Slide T on ebay for what I thought was a reasonable price, so that's on the way. It might not be the exact correct vintage, but I'm not overly concerned about that at this point in time. That leaves the only thing missing at the 5" extension. I think only having to come up with two things is a pretty fair accomplishment for this set... especially just learning from everyone here over the last month.

Looking over the box, and trying to peer under the liberal coating of rust, I can't see any trace of original color at all, even on the tray. It needs a little rehab after cleaning. Part of the hinge is starting to pull away, the clasps are slightly bent, the latch pin is a nail, and the lock tab is held on by a long bolt... so just a little love is needed, lol. I do like bonneyman's suggestion of light blue, so at the end of the process I'll find a shade I like and go with that.

Now back to the 1/4" rabbit-hole obsession...

I was digging through a tub of sockets at an antique shop today and managed to pull these out along with some others. The others are Walden, Giller, Snap-on, and Herbrand. 10 sockets total at 1.75 per pair. I'm not sure what vintage these are, but they have the narrow band compared to some of the shinier chrome sockets.

Picked up this 1/4” tin recently. Looking forward to filling it. Anyone want to point me in the right direction? I think Set 4097 or 4098 can be built in it if someone wants to confirm that IMG_5198.jpeg
They used that box for quite a few different sets starting probably in 1946 and used till the mid ‘50s. They transitioned to more 6 point sockets and a smaller diameter crossbar as time went on.

Thanks Don, I figured you'd chime in and I appreciate it.

I'm assuming the diamond logo is the correct one for drives and extensions (extensions with the closer double lines as opposed to what I call the split double lines)? As well as the knurled sockets?

These arrived in the mail yesterday. I got inspired by @d42jeep 's amazing collection kinda went down that rabbit-hole a bit, mostly because the 4097 and 4098 sets had the crossbars.

The large box I'm pretty sure is from the late '60's or 70's as it's all marked 'S-K Tools'; it's only missing the 2 inch extension.
The other two I think are wartime vintage or thereabouts based on all the photos Don has shared of his collection.

I don't know what the extra bar is in the 4098 set, to me it looks like someone cut of the shaft of a valve for a tool at some point. The sets were definitely used as the 1/4 and 5/16 are almost rounded out, but the sets look nice.
Thanks for inviting me down this rabbit-hole.

I believe your large box set is 80s or 90s but the contents may be 70s

are you kidding me?

are S-K BOXES a thing here?

when I was young and foolish - like, previous to about a year ago - I went on a "box" kick and rounded up all kinds of empty socket set boxes.
when I finally get them dug out - I know that most of them are out in the garage at the far end of the pile (because that's where the oldest stuff is) - should I list them here in "classifieds"?
I ran across a box full of boxes last year when I was digging out S-K for @Kaervak for that "Secret Santa" thing and it subsequently got re-buried.

^ Not a clue guys... it's a mish-mash and it's piled up five feet high out there.
I've been working on a couple boxes out of the back bedroom... got 13 listed, 4 sold so far.
Haven't had time for it because of the painting project I'm working on.

This almost complete wartime black oxide 1/4” drive set arrived yesterday missing only the 1/4” 6 point socket. I’m working on a couple of these sets if anyone happens to have an extra of the missing black oxide 1/4” hex sockets. The last picture is a wartime picture of an S-K set (circled) next to a Duro 1/4” drive set in the large box. IMG_0521.jpegIMG_0523.jpegIMG_3131.jpeg
