I rescued another S-K box from the scrap bin. There were no S-K tools within, unfortunately. This was the as-found condition. Hammering it back to straight(er) was fun.
I posted a war-time version of this box up-thread (#3437 & #4989). Don and Shelbylex also shared photos of a post-war box like this one. It was interesting to compare them in person. The lids' corner treatment is different and this box is made of heavy 18 gauge steel, whereas the war-time box is only 20 gauge. (Approximately .050" vs. .035").
I guess I'm mostly posting to show how well the name plate cleaned up. The gritty old grease was surprisingly hard, but naphtha eventually cut through it. I used a disposable acid-brush with the bristles snipped v
ery short as a scrub-brush.
Seeing the photo up close has me wondering if I can get it even cleaner!
