Wayne era

I like the hammered blue paint they used in that era. This one came home with me on Thursday. It was missing the 9/16" socket but I had one on hand. That same socket had been a place holder in a later SK-Tools set until I found one that matched. Now it's found its final resting place.

The ratchet and box are the only things marked Wayne. The rest are <SK>. (Except the =V= Craftsman extension).

It’s not quite as cut and dried as that. One of the odd things that Wayne did was move the patent number to the opposite side of the ratchet, before they actually changed the marking to S-K Wayne. I would be more comfortable saying the date range of your ratchet was from the end of WW2 to around 1960.

Thanks!
That actually puts it close to the 57-61 range of the Husky CS42 I purchased it with.

I'm sure it's old hat around here, but it's still impressive to me that they're still selling the same tool 60+ years later.

Another random eBay browsing at the right time. An SAE Spin Kit in nearly perfect condition (missing a socket) and two magnetic bit drivers. The shorter one is a little rough, but looks good enough to me to add to the collection.

Looks good, Kaervak! I did not know that magnetic drivers came in 2 different length.
I wonder if the green handles have acetate butyrate in them or not (do they start smelling with age)?

One of these days, I will find a decent 3d printed model for the end-caps. It always seems like I find ones that are missing.

Edit: After searching a ton of terms, finally found one. Will try and print it this week, and report back. Going to try "White" ABS, which usually is more of an off-white/ivory color.

I’ve been concentrating on working towards completing a few S-K sets and on Saturday i found a 19/32“ socket that I was missing from a 1/2” drive set in progress. IMG_4102.jpeg
Here it is after some restoration.

IMG_4185.jpeg
This S-K lot arrived recently from eBay and had two more sockets for the set along with a partial metric set with tray. IMG_4184.jpeg
The 7/8” and 3/4” sockets for the set.IMG_4188.jpeg
The set is progressing nicely missing only an 11/16” and 7/16” socket which are likely in my Bay Area spares.

We have a 1975 Airstream trailer that I've owned nearly half that long up at our property.
We still use it but it needs a good cleaning and freshening up inside.
I was going through it this week - throwing stuff out, bringing the bedding home to launder, etc and "refound" this little SK Wayne tool box that was in there when I bought it.
It was full of scraps of wire, screws and junk which I tossed.
It measures about 17"x 6 x 6.
Since I joined GJ I've learned that there are "collectors" of most brands of tools.
This box was cheaply built and is somewhat beleaguered but is still kind of a cute little thing.
It is going to "go away" but I wondered if it has any value and if anyone here might be interested in it.
Thanks

Question for this esteemed body of SK fanatics.
Thinking about buying a 1/2 set of sockets with a S-K tool box. Can you easily find or make the square loops for the latches? The box doesn't have them.

Just a question rolling around my brain.

If they are round wire stock, maybe. I've tried in the past, and trying to find the right material has not been easy. Hope others have suggestions on what to use, mine seem to fail too easy to trust.

What's your skill set? What tools do you have for forming wire? Welding? What's your tolerance for perfection?

Enquiring minds want to know....

Beer Hippie ....I was thinking it would be round stainless rod bent to make loops at worst or a buy a set of latches from "Fred's Toolbox Rodeo" online and use those loops. But seeing what people have on this and other this a very deep pool of knowledge.

As for welding I am a Gorilla welder as in strong as hell but just as ugly.

If you have a vise with jaws that are thin enough, you could certainly make 90 degree bends in small (1/8"?) rod with a hammer. I've done round bends that came out pretty nice using an appropriate-size rod mounted in the vise. If you drill your mounting plates to fit the rod (wire?) size, a quick and dirty tack-weld on the backside won't be visible once mounted. I counter-sink the holes from the back when doing this to work like a bevel, allowing me to grind the weld flat without removing all my weldment.

I ain't the purtiest welder, myself.

Pic of the loop you are tying to make?

I bend quite a bit of wire, some with fixtures, (most of which I make) some with wire forming tools/pliers, some, as mentioned in a vise and finish with a hammer.

Yes,
A photo of original loops he is trying to duplicate would be interesting and helpful.

The loops I seen are not welded together inside the bracket which is what makes it hard for me not having welding access. So as I see it you've been the first three 90s, then the last one in place.

I should clarify that the loops are missing but the latches are there. The box is isted as a 6" by 20" with tray.

It's 7/16" to 1 1/8" socket set but more than I'd like to spend but does have a 42170 ratchet also. The seller is also including a Blackhawk 36 oz hammer ,the 1" combo wrench , and the snap on wire strippers.

Thinking my S-K collection could be kept in it.

But also thinking keep looking and what the cosmic S-K distribution system brings me.

Might watch for bit and see if the price goes down.

You're missing more than just the loop of wire there. You're missing half the over-center latches. I'd drill out the rivets, buy new latches and replace.

Or just be happy with the hitch pin and hasp.

Here is 2nd post in my S-K journey
20250926_202107.jpg
3/4" Wrenches most used and least cleaned I've seen so Two S-K and S-K tools. Will prefect cleaning on some low quality Taiwan no name wrenches.
Two examples of S-K 11/16" combo wrenches
S-K Tools 9/16" combo
Lectrolite 1/2" combo
3/8" Combo in Lectrolite and S-K Tools
Finally a 1/4" Lectrolite Combo
Hadn't seen any 6 point wrenches before outside the Craftsman sets I bought sometime after 2004 on clearance. Excluding ignition wrenches. But the 3/8" and 1/4" are 6 pt.

We found some S-K tools at various sales in Nevada today. These 3/4” drive tools were coated with some kind of difficult to remove waxy substance. I’m slowly making progress with the cleaning. IMG_4279.jpeg
Some progress with the cleaning process. IMG_4294.jpegIMG_4293.jpegIMG_4295.jpeg
Here is a 3/8” drive ratchet and a 1/2” drive unmarked prewar speeder from another sale.IMG_4284.jpeg
