Very nice. I was running into the same problem at my old house with no garage so I found 2 tool boards online and it really helped storing them all

Nice stuff guys. That's a whole lot of green goodness Chopper!

Twertsy go ahead and use the pictures if you want. Unless you got them already from r olson. Maybe pictures of the plug itself would be nice too.

Try posting some pix. You'd have a better chance of someone IDing it.

I was doing some research to try to determine the date of manufacture for a Sherman-Klove socket set that I own when I came across this Garage Journal site. If anyone can help me narrow down the production date of my set, I would greatly appreciate it. I have a Sherman-Klove 4168 W set that is in excellent to mint condition and was probably produced between 1941 and 1955, based on my research. All drive tools have the diamond <S-K> logo. The set has a 42470 knurled ratchet, a 40161extension, and a 41653 breaker bar with the larger 9/16 cross-bar hole (later versions had a 7/16 hole). I believe the set is missing a 41650 cross-bar. All sockets are knurled, have the chrome finish, and are marked with S-K (S-K CHROME markings were used until sometime between 1939 and 1944). All sockets also have the 401xx model numbers (model numbers were added in 1939), and have no recesses in the drive ends (recesses were added by 1955). The set has a 40190 swivel that I don't think came with the set, and is probably missing a 21/32 or 25/32 socket.

I have read that the 4168 set was first offered in 1939, but I have not been able to determine when it was last offered. If I could determine when the 41653 breaker bar switched to a 7/16 cross-bar hole, that would further narrow the possible dates. Thanks in advance to anyone that can provide assistance in this matter.

Canuck!, according to the 1943 catalog, the W indicates a set affected by wartime operations and sets were modified. The 4168W is listed in the 1943 catalog. The 1943 catalog I have came from Twertsy's site toolarchives.com. I hope this helps.

Nice little set (incomplete) but bonus is the original card and pristine label that was protected by the card. All the sockets are there.

Thank you so much, StillTooManyHobbies. I went to toolarchives.com, but I had trouble settting up an account, so I was unable to view the catalog. I will try again later.

I grabbed a similar set today. Likely a slightly newer set based on the logo behind the card, and the price being a little higher.

HELP: need a 5/16 8 point socket to complete this set, Thanks !
I have a drawer of SK sockets, u joints, extensions to trade.

Brian Pardon the Proto Challenger clutter in the photo !

Hey, StillTooManyHobbies, I was able to look at the catalogs at ToolArchives.com. I found my 4168 W set in the 1943 S-K Catalog and also in the 1950's S-K Box Sets Pamphlet. Now I know which years the set was produced and also which tools were in the set. Thanks again!

Does anybody know which years S-K used this style nameplate? Sorry, TheHorse13, I used your profile picture. I hope you don't mind.

Have an old SK 1/2 drive set I use regularly (see pix). The patent number on the ratchet was filed in 1939 and issued in 1941, so I'm guessing the set is from the 1940s. Anyone have an idea on the date for this set?

First, welcome.
Your sockets replaced the ones marked "S-K Chrome" in the mid 40's. I haven't seen any information as to how long before this style was redesigned.

Your sockets do not say "SK Chrome" and they have a model # so they were made after 1944. If they have little detents in the base then they were made after 1955 and the latest they could have been made would be mid 1960's.
All this according to Alloy Artifact website.

Finally completed this flea market set I picked up a few months ago. I think it is a set number 14 based on the 1964 catalog. The metric sockets were a mix of SK and SK Wayne, and I filled them in with SK Wayne to stay period correct. I added a 16mm socket, 3" extension and a 5/8 Blackhawk spark plug socket I found because it looked like it fit right in. :D I think the set cleaned up nice.

Also picked up this SK 45175 at Carlisle for $20. It's the long handled version of the TUFF1 ratchet. It is in really nice shape with only a couple of drawer rubbing marks on each side of the head. It is really smoooooth.

Great find, I have one of those and I think I like it better then my FL80. I think I paid $30 for mine and have no regrets.

Nice Set! I have a long handled SK Wayne 1/2" ratchet that was my grandfathers and its one of my favorite tools. I also got its companion, a standard handle SK Wayne 1/2" ratchet at a swap meet for $5. They will both outlast me.

I'm a major fan of the Tuff1 ratchets. Its a shame SK doesn't make them anymore but you can buy essentially the same thing under Proto now as its a facom design. They can be finicky if the allen bolt isn't tensioned right but if they have a dab of blue loctite and are set right they are PERFECT. I prefer mine over my snap-on dual 80s. They are smooth and feel just right.

I have a smattering of older SK and SK-Wayne tools, not enough to call a collection, some day soon it might graduate to an accumulation.
All it takes to graduate is one garage/estate sale with a lifetime accumulation that follows you home. I only have a collection, but if I'm not careful, it could turn into a hoard ...

I don't have a ton of SK, but I always pick them up when they catch my eye. This <SK> Lectrolite set came mostly complete, and I've filled in a couple of missing sockets, but I'm still missing a 1-1/6". Also, I'm not sure if this set would have come with a T-handle bar for the breaker. :dunno:

I have the same set that I have been building for a couple years. As you might have guessed, I don't actively search for these but rather let them fall in my lap - which most of it has (including the steel case).

I know I am missing the 1 1/16" and 1/2", but learned by re-reading this thread there are some odd sizes out there like 1 3/16", 23/32, and 31/32. I have a 19/32" & 25/32".

Are there more oddball sizes to this set?

There shouldn't be any 32nd sizes in the lectrolite era. The diamond era 19/32 and 25/32 were common along with 1-3/16. The 31/32 and 21/32 are hard to come by most came out of the "s-k chrome" era but there are few that ended up in the diamond era(Sherman Klove).

At a pawn shop, earlier today, I grabbed an old SK box, as well as some assorted hand tools. Seems from a set. Too late tonight to snap pictures, I'll post tomorrow

I picked up this stuff at a pawn shop yesterday. I felt a responsibility to rescue the old SK box. It's solid, but covered with surface rust.

I'll need to clean it up, repaint it and the fun will be......filling it
