SK did Krauter? I'll need to put the few Krauter sockets I've picked up with the SK...

So it seems! I recently discovered they made some Crescent ratchets as well.

So that makes at least 6:

- Jcpenney
- Krauter
- Crescent
- Western Giant
- Artisan
- Craftsman

Did I miss any?

Anyone have a spare half inch drive bullet nose 1 1/4 SK socket in nice shape that they are willing to part with? I thought for sure I had one but as it turns out I have an extra 1 1/8th. I would happily swap anyone interested.

LMAO, just sail your Ark up to Dinosaur Land. We can use it as an anchor.

Thanks. I will cross this off my list of things needed. lol

BTW, attendance at Dino has been horrid. A few local vendors up my way have ceased going.

No but I need the 1-1/8, 1-1/16 and 9/16 sockets in that same size and era (knurled). I'm wondering if I have anything to swap for your extra?

And am I learning here now that I'm also missing the 1-1/4" socket?

I'm a Plomb pebble and 30s Blackhawk guy. I'm sure we can find something that I like. PM me your e-mail address and I will send you pics of my spare. It's in nice shape.

Yes, there is a 1-1/4 and above. My set stops at 1-1/4 though.

Does anyone have an idea on when this box was made? It seems to be a nice box for my SK tools.

As much as I'd like to, I don't think I can. The 1/2" drive only went up to 1-1/4", didn't it?
I don't think I have a 3/4" drive SK in 1-3/8", but I have an SK made Craftsman (K).

attachment.php

Not sure if SK went bigger in 1/2 - many did. I was being a bit facetious though; I recently got my ONLY 1-3/8 in a 1" drive impact. BUT its an 8 pt square socket... You could get 1-3/8 wrenches, even combos, but the 1-3/8 in a socket is very rare. I did find they are made, but apparently that size was skipped for standard SAE hex nuts and bolts? :dunno: That you have that size socket at all in any drive size at all is impressive!

Its a challenge! :pimpflash

-Tiger Tools (ratchet) I’m not sure where that falls in with the old brands (Artisan, Brasil, etc.)
-Kane
-Klein
-Gambles
-channelock (unmarked) ratchet

And I recently discovered there were at least 2 types of Kraeuter. There are also 2 versions of the Klein. And can't forget the Mac-branded beavertail in 3/8 and 1/2.

Thanks Don. Another question, how do you clean up those sockets so well? I have several 1/2 and 3/4 drive knurled sockets but they look like the before picture.

I use either fine steel wool or a hand brass wire brush on the exterior of the sockets and I have collected a bunch of different size brushes for the interiors. Just be careful that you don’t work on Cad plated sockets. Very dangerous. I only clean either plain steel or chrome plated sockets. I also use discarded dental picks to clean out the grooves. If I must take the grease off of a cad plated tool, I spray it off with an aerosol brake cleaner and let it air dry.

What grade of fine steel wool Don?

Looks like in 3/4" drive, I've got a wartime Walden in 1-3/8" as well. The largest 1/2" drive socket I have is a Bonney (triangle) in 1-5/16!

Here are the sizes I've found thus far: 1 1/8, 1 1/16, 15/16, 7/8, 13/16, 25/32, 3/4, 11/16, 5/8, 19/32, 9/16.

Rubicon, here's what I found in my spares that's absent from your list. All 1/2" drive.
The 13/16 S-K spark plug socket doesn't have the rubber insert.
6pt. 1/2"
12pt. 7/16"

Let me know if you're interested in any/all of them.

It was house cleaning, garage cleaning time.

S-K Chrome 15/16 GONE
S-K Chrome 11/16 GONE
S-K 13/16 GONE
S-K 11/16 GONE
S-K 5/8 GONE
S-K 9/16 GONE
S-K 19/32 GONE

Thanks for the interest, but they're all gone now. I'm happy I could get these out of my extra tools drawer, and into the hands of others who appreciate them.

A neighbor who knows I like tools gave me this socket set. Looks like mid 60's
I read through the entire thread and did not see a close hammered blue paint, is there one? The case also has a slot for 3/8" sockets, could some one give the sizes to look for. The two wrenches were in my surplus odd balls. The large sk box was empty when I found it, don't know what was in it.

There were some blue ones

I have a couple SK/Lectrolite boxes that are blue. I don't know if all SK/Lectrolite boxes were blue but I do know that SK/Wayne came in green and blue.

Perhaps they were leftovers from the Lectrolite era? If so, that would date that set early in the Wayne era.

There were even S-K marked blue boxes. They just aren’t as common as the green ones. Here are a couple I’ve run across.

Current status of my S-K 1/2" drive knurled set that I began collecting a couple months ago. Picking pieces up 1 and 2 at a time at flea markets and estate sales. I have a few extra of a couple sizes if anyone is needing something.
I added 40140 1 1/4" and 40132 1" today after scouring my local flea market. My list of what I have in this set now stands as follows:
1 1/4", 1 1/8, 1 1/16, 1", 15/16, 7/8, 13/16, 25/32, 3/4, 11/16, 5/8, 19/32, 9/16.

Today I found the earliest SK ratchet I've come across. A 30's female 40170 with the drive plug and an extension. I'm not sure if the extension is correct, but they were together so I grabbed it. Also picked up a good user 1/2" ratchet to go with it.

Trying to find some SK wrenches to fill the tool board that I posted a couple pages back. This weekend didn't disappoint.
1-1/8" and 3/4" combos, 3/8" &7/16" DBE, 3/8" drive 'Frankenstein' ratchet, 1/4" drive extension, and a handful of sockets.

The solution for that is to grab every S-K tool you find until you figure it out!
Oh wait, you’re already doing that:thumbup:
-Don

:lol_hitti
You got that right.
My biggest fear is that one row is for SAE combos and the other row is for metric... :shocking:
If I have to load it up with Metric combos, I’m screwed.
Hoping that I can do one row of SAE combos and a row of DBEs. No clue what the row of paired hooks on the bottom of the board are for.

I can’t find any pictures of similar tool boards. I’ll keep looking.

Speaking of grabbing everything with the name S-K on it - I need a 1" combo wrench from that set. I have duplicates of most of the smaller sizes available for trade.

Toothaker - your socket finally made it to the post office today. Sorry for the delay!

Question: Are there diamond logo combo wrenches? I have some diamond logo DBE wrenches, and I assume there's diamond DOE wrenches, but have never so much as seen a photo of a diamond combo wrench.

Brian,
These wartime finish wrenches are the earliest S-K wrenches I had and they look a lot like the rest of the newer wrenches except for finish. Could you post a picture of your diamond logo wrench?

I have a few of them but these are two of the better ones.

Thanks, Brian,
I’ve never seen those markings before. They aren’t on Alloy Artifacts either. I’m thinking that this might be the style of wrench that would have been on username’s new S-K board.
