[] Do not use "cheater" bars/pipes on ratchets or wrenches
Good thing we're not up on the general Discussion board where we would have to endure an endless string of posts arguing that all good mechanics use cheater bars and pipes!![]()
Should be good now.r_olson_06: I tried to send you a pm, but your box is full.
I found this empty 3/8” drive box at an estate sale this morning. It required a bit of cleanup but came with the cardboard inserts. I managed to fill it up out of the S-K boxes but one extension looked a bit too old.

If anyone needs these to complete a set they are free for the shipping. There is 3/8, 7/16, 1/2 in 6 point and 5/8 , 11/16 and 3/4 in 12 point. I believe I bought them in the later 1950's
So typical! Yeah, I just twisted an extension, so let's use a pipe so I can twist my breaker bar next!I grabbed an 18" breaker bar and twisted a snap on extension in half. He wanted me to get a pipe to help. HAH!
Thank you, MShaw!"Those appear to be 3/8" drive. Is that correct?"
The three smaller sockets are gone to Toothaker
Wow. Just wow. One of the hardest ratchets to come by in my experience. Have over 600 and not a one is Western Giant. Congrats.Western Giant "beaver tail" #4570 3/8" drive ratchet that was given to me by BMWRD0. It needed a rebuild so I upgraded another S-K ratchet and used the old mechanism in this one. It's a little rough but they're not easy to find so am happy to have salvaged this one.

Dang. Love the handle on the 1/2 ratchet. What's the story with Western Giant? Never ever seen any of it here.Thank you! It will keep my Western Giant #4270, 1/2" drive ratchet company. As you can see from the photos, the 4270 was abused.

That explains alot since wizard is super scarce here as well. Have alot of tiger though.Western Auto house brand - I think all pre-war. The problem with identifying the eras is the lack of catalogs. From what I've seen, Western Auto put out lots of catalogs covering all manner or auto parts, appliances, and farm goods but I have yet to see catalogs dedicated exclusively to tools. I'm not saying they don't exist just that they're not a part of the public domain.

I mentioned in my previous post that I used the guts from another ratchet to make the repair. In fact, the guts from the donor ratchet, an S-K #3870 flex head, were in perfect condition. So why did I upgrade? I couldn't resist putting a "Speed wheel" (thumb wheel) #45171-2 kit in the 3870. It's now my favorite ratchet!

Also, I finally filled all the holes in my SK wrench board!

I picked up this pre-war SK offset DBE over the weekend.

That must be a rare DBE. I haven’t seen one of those. Your wrench board looks great!

I remember you posting those wrenches HERE. Sorry, but I don't have any catalog info on them at all. This is the only one I've come across. Let me know if this size is missing from your group. As for the pre-war DBE, I posted a couple pix of the few diamond logo S-K wrenches in my collection and no one seemed to know anything about them. Does anyone here have catalog pix of these?
I think I have a set of them DBEs with some extras. But SK is over abundant in these parts since it was received by the farming community early as very durable. Will post some pics tonight. If anyone is looking for some to fill/start a set let me know. That must be a rare DBE. I haven’t seen one of those. Your wrench board looks great!
