I picked this 1/4" socket set up in '17 I think. I'd like to complete it. I'm hoping the experts here can tell me what I'm missing, maybe point me to a catalog and tell me what period it was sold. It had 9 sockets, 6 6-pt and 3 8-pt sockets. I've got a breaker bar stamped 40953 with the diamond S-K logo. It has the sliding T-handle. The sockets are as follows:
6-pt:
1/4" 40908
9/32" 40909
5/16" 40910
11/32" 40911
3/8" 40912
7/16" 40914

8-pt:
1/4" 40986
5/16" 40900
3/8" 40901

What other pieces would have been in the set and/or what is the set #?

Thanks!

I think your good on 8 points. Maybe need a 3/16 and a 7/32.

Otg I see a couple of sets on the big auction site with 3/16 & 7/32 for 6-pt sockets. Also, a 2" extension which I don't have and the diamond logo'd ratchet 40970.

All
Personally, feel like a 1/2" socket would be nice in the set. If there's room after locating the 2 missing sockets I will add a 1/2".

Did S-K make the 2" ext stamped with the diamond logo? It looks like the part # is 40961.

Just wondering if that would have been the set?

I see what AA says about when the diamond logo was used.

Update: I didn't see anything specific per se to the diamond logo on AA but I think the knurled sockets ended in the early '60s. That doesn't tell me the period for the diamond logo but does give me some idea when this 1/4" drive set would have last been sold by S-K. Anyone please correct me if I'm off base here.

I just noticed that while the breaker bar has the diamond logo'd S-K none of the sockets have the diamond. Did S-K ever put the diamond logo on these small 1/4" drive sockets?

I think you are missing some of the 6 pts that I've noted in this previous post.

No Diamond. Your sockets look perfect and OTG mentioned the two small sockets you are missing. You also need the short and long extensions.

I found some S-K at a Napa estate sale this morning. The unusual tools are the two 3/8” drive 8 point sockets marked “Chrome Alloy”. I only have one other 3/8” drive socket with those markings. The 3/8” drive flex handle has no markings.

Here is a similar set I have. Looks like it has the ratchet and extensions. I may be missing some sockets!

I think it lost a fight with a grinder or was used to hammer something

Several weeks ago I found this 3/4 inch S-K set at an estate sale. The sale was about 30 minutes from my house and didn't have pictures of any tools. I went anyway and wandered out to the outbuilding garage and began to dig around. I noticed a box of older hard hats and picked it up to get a look underneath and saw this S-K green box . It was marked $30 and I thought it was probably a beat up 1/2" set or something like that. Opened it up and there was this set. It looks almost unused. After getting it home, I found the original price card in the box. It is interesting to note that the card says S-K Wayne while the box has a nice older S-K badge on the inside. Alas, I paid $3.50 more than the original price. It is missing the 1" socket, which I would like to eventually find. This is the most S-K 3/4 stuff I have ever seen in one place.

This post was originally made on the garage sale thread, but I thought it might be of interest here.

Found just the box. Wasn't the best deal I've gotten, but not the worst either....it was $18. It's been repainted a long time ago, has a floating tray (which I haven't seen in person before) so extensions can go underneath it. Looks like it might be good for the Model A under the rear seat if the Union is too big.

Here is an SK Wayne 12" adjustable wrench. Looks like it's only been used a handful of times. In very good shape. Pretty much identical to Lectrolite wrenches. (dont mind the little Utica)

Nice. The Wayne adjustables are super hard to come by. I think I have only ever seen 2.

Looking for the following Plomb Pebbles Wrenches 3061, 3070,

Here is a wartime 1/2” drive set I’ve been putting together. Roy recently sent me the missing 9/16” socket. I’m missing the cad, dark finish or plain steel 15/16” socket and unmarked flex handle and (of course) crossbar.

Thanks, I agree, I've been looking for a while and this is the 1st I've seen in the wild. There is occasionally one on eBay but never this nice.

Don, I have an unfinished 7/8 and a couple knurled base 15/16 sockets if they would help your sets. Smth

Thanks for the offer. The 15/16” knurled socket I’m looking for can’t be chrome plated. If the socket is chrome plated that means it was made either before or after the wartime chrome restrictions. If you have one that isn’t chrome, I’d love to see a picture.

Here are my estate sale finds today. The first shot is as found, the second is the wrenches cleaned up. I put today’s ratchet (the bottom one) into a set but I have either of these two plain finish ones available for a trip to Texas.:)

Here are a Wayne marked Stillson pipe wrench and a S-K Tools 12” adjustable wrench.
By adding several of the 1/4” drive tools from ssdave, I upgraded my second postwar knurled set.

Do you think that might be a wartime ratchet that came with your set?
I would have expected to see one that looks more like this one.

That looks great! Glad I was able to help. There are a lot of these attractive sets surfacing. Very well made tools, in my opinion, especially the ratchets.

Here's a first for me. Brazil socket set, with the wrong ratchet, found in the wild for $20 at the Portland swap meet. I'm guessing 1930s?

I recently went to an estate sale in Franklin Park, IL, previous home of S-K/Dresser Era and it was a former SK Employee and found this interesting flat handled Frankenstein which is the first that myself and DaveThorik have seen. Hat tip to Dave for noticing it and asking me to document it here.

It also has a chromed push button which most don't and the part number stamped into it is actually for a 3/8 dr thumbwheel. The backside of the handle has no stamps. It seems to have a higher polish too, maybe they were testing different handles and finishes and this guy took one home?

I also found a flat handled 1/2 drive with just Made in USA on it, no brand such as Klein, Gambles, JCPenney etc. Higher polish finish on this one too.

Other pics from the S-K pick in the garage sale thread.
