Bought this partial set on ebay today, is it part of the set listed in the 1939 catalog?

Since your sockets are marked S-K Chrome I would say between the late ‘30s and early ‘41. I haven’t run across any S-K Chrome deep spark plug sockets. The really hard tool to find for the sets is the Ell handle.

Greetings,

Wandering around a flea market a nice green box caught my eye. It was dirty, but seemed in nice condition both inside and out. Delighted to find it was an S-K Tools box, paid the CA$5.00 and went on with my day.

I'm not that familiar with S-K Tools so don't know if this belongs in the Vintage thread or not. The box measures about 17" wide x 3.5" deep x2" tall. Also the badge on the inside is not metal, it seems to be a stiff plastic.

Does anyone know the age or possibly even what might have been inside it at one point? No retainer for sockets. So maybe a set of tall sockets? Don't know, just guessing!

I've cleaned it up and photos are below. It's now in my tool box waiting for me to put something inside it!

Thanks,

Matthew

PS Is this now a quest . . . to find and replace the original contents? Maybe, maybe . . .

Here are some catalog images and a 3/8” drive set I picked up at an estate sale in 2017. The product offerings varied quite a bit during the Dresser era.

This is wonderful, thank you Don. This gives me a good idea of how these kits were assembled, terrific.

So, the "Dresser Era", some time from the late 60s to the late 70s?

Nice ratchet. I got one of those with a broken drive for free at a garage sale and S-K sent me a replacement shorter parts ratchet. I put the guts from the new one into the long handle and I really like the results.

Hi all,

Here's a modest contribution. Picked up this 3/8-drive S-K speed bar yesterday. I'm new to S-K, so don't know if this is right for this vintage thread.

I think perhaps yes, due to the S-K Diamond logo? Ideas on general location in the timeline? Has a nice satin finish.

It needed some care, but came up nicely. There's a little bit of damage where someone used some vice-grips to get more torque. The handle was stiff, but I flushed it out, lubed it and now spins freely.

It's also a wee bit out of alignment. If I hold the knurled handle and turn, the socket end describes a small circle, but I'm not going to worry about that, unless it's an easy fix? Pretty happy for the price of a cup of coffee.

Thanks!

Matthew

I have a speeder just like that in my postwar set.

Man, those black oxide are so badass. They just broadcast, "Make way please, we're here to fix something" . . . "No thank you on the latte, just black is fine, don't care if its cold."
My wartime black oxide set is my favorite one

Here's one you don't see everyday. I was fortunate to find it for a very attractive price today.

BRAZIL Tools carry box with the tray. This one will be traversing the country to live out its days in beautiful sunny CA.

For which I will be forever grateful. I’ve been putting aside plenty of Chrome Alloy tools and the Brazil box will replace the almost identical S-K box they’ve been living in.

Thanks for the note Dan,

Good Heavens yes, they are the same. So then my speed bar is that old? How extraordinary!

There are almost nil older S-K around where I live, I may have to be content with this single fellow. lol that’s ok by me, I have many other things to keep my eyes open for ;)

My pleasure. Here are some chrome 8 point sockets I grabbed off of eBay that weren’t Rileysan’s fault. The other sockets are the rare wartime small 1/4” drive sockets I received from OTG which I really appreciate.

I found an S-K 9710 lug wrench today. The 3/4 end has been replaced by a 13/16 deep socket, probably for tall lug nuts on mag wheels. It has an interesting marking on the hub, with the sizes marked on the opposite side of the hub.

I have a lot of old and new SK the new is mostly from warranty on the ones I broke. They are great tools still to this day I found a lot at pawn shops and bought a few things from them directly. Most of mine are the vintage ones some are newer style. I use them as a mechanic and they are great I sometimes grab them over my Snap-on stuff.

Speaking of SK making tools under contract, I came across this on eBay the other night for $15 + shipping so naturally had to have it.
