It's sad because it will probably sit under that shed with all of those other projects. The old man that owns all that stuff will pass away and his kids wont want anything to do with it. It will end up being scrapped because the new owner of the property will want to turn the place into condos.

I hate to be so negative, but neat old stuff like that gets thrown out everyday. Look at all the stuff on ebay where the seller states " I don't know anything about it I got it at an estate sale but I posted lots of pictures to show it in detail". The stories about those things are gone forever. Sorry about the rant.

I will say it is a very cool piece and it should be restored. I too would love to hear the history of it. If it is Snap-on I wonder if contacting them would help? How did the current owner obtain it? Where was it located? There has to be someone out there that knows what it was originally designed for.

If I had to guess I would say a generator / starter rebuild station. There was probably a armature growler and mica lathe on the lower bench top. Those items would easily slide into the back giving room on the bench top.

yeah you probably right, some thing to do with electrical work. but i would still like to know. it could have been a work station for model trains? but i do not think that it was a "one off deal" or home built peice.
