It seems, I have got my hands on, an old Snap On roll cab! :D sure in it's day... it was a very nice tool box! but as time has past it has acquired some miles . Few hundred thousand miles might be, more the case ... Although most of the rust is superficial! I am sure with a bit of elbow grease and, a whole whack of paint (lol:lol:) This may be a fine addition to my new garage! (moving in next month).

Since, the box is in need of glass bead blasting or something of that sort
and it will need paint. Which has posed a minor dilemma for me. I am kinda tossed between a custom color or Stock Red! As it is a vintage cab, I do believe it's from mid to late 1970's.

I am thinking red would be really nice! but at the same time so would a solid custom color Blue, Black or orange.

The original red would be keeping it original, like rims on an old restored Camaro... "Rallyes"? or Lowered with 22" Chrome Rollers?

So my question is what do you guys think?

Solid Custom Color or, Original Snap On tool box Red?

I'd go with the custom color of your choice and then have it professionaly pinstriped. But thats just me.

Remember if the drawer slides are worn and need replaced they are guaranteed for life, just get ahold of the closest dealer, just had all of mine replaced for """"FREE""" it was early 70,s

One of my old boxes was a vintage snappy from the 70's it was a roll cab, intermediate, top and side box . I painted it plumb crazy purple and cut a picture off an old poster I had of a green 54 Chevy glued it to the lids front cover then cleared it with a multi color flake. Wet sanded and buffed it out that was one of the sickest boxes I ever seen. My dad has it now but again it is in need of a face lift. Oh yeah I used those chrome door ding protectors on the drawer handles.

I say go custom.

If you bought it for yourself, make it your own. If you're just going to sell it later, stock is better.

Why not compromise between your two choices and do a custom red? Pick your favorite muscle car red, mine would be the Manta Ray era.

Thanks for all the feed back! Definitely something to think about!!! I wish i could afford the top box, unfortunately not at the moment. Would love to see pics of what should sit on top, I have never seen a top cabinet for one of these.

I had the same box, bought it in the late 70's and traded it around '95 for a new one. What sold me on the new one was the roller drawer slides, and the amount the dealer gave me on the new one.

Nice! I like the roller bearing slides too! i have them in my tool box at work (John Deere tool box) very smooth. I am trying to find the snap on dealer here. I heard he went out of business.
