Hey guys i wanted to get your opinion on this two piece snap-on tool chest i have the opportunity to buy. I think it is from the mid 50's by the snap on badges it has but it has definitely seen some better days but doesn't look terrible. What would you guys pay for this two piece set if you had the chance to buy it? Thanks guys for your help!

As 469runner said 400 tops i would start at 300 and go to 400. That would look sweet repainted. And you should have no trouble getting your money back if you repaint and decide to sell it later.

Like others have said that box is in the $400 range. Agree with Vantastic, box is not from the 50's, others will know much more than me but I'd guess early 70's

I really didn't think it would be worth that much in this condition even if it is a snap-on. I would have to get rid of one of my current boxes to make room for it but i think i could repaint it and make it look really nice.

Price is dependent on the condition of the slides. Replacements slides are getting harder to get. Drawers and slides work decent $300-350

$50 for the top, $100-150 for the bottom.

Looks pretty rough.

It would have to be next to nothing... I don't care that it says snap on....its an old out dated box

I used to think that was a foolish thought. Not anymore, agree. Neat but not very practical compared to modern tech when it comes to use.

Well the drawer layout is a lot better then some of the boxes I own plus a lot of them on the market. I think it is more of a nice display piece once it is restored then a regular use tool box.

Not yet he just got off of work but it is dark now and I don't like making deals in the dark by myself. Going to see if we can meet tomorrow afternoon or Thursday.

Hold on Cody, in another thread you bich about lowballers,
yet you now plan on offering 75 on a fairly priced 200 item?

"out dated"... :headscrat

Are you having trouble with the phrase itself or why it applies here?

That is about half of what he is asking which is where you should start at when haggling and he said or bo on his ad. I am not going to offer his $20 dollars like the guy that came to look at mine did to my stuff!

I'm trying to imagine how a metal box with drawers could become outdated...

Start out at half....lol you watch to much TV. American pickers or *** monkey. If someone offered me half of what I was asking I would just say have a good day we are done here. Unless your dealing with someone who has no idea what the item is worth and they are asking way to much.

Esp when there are plenty of people saying they would pay 400 for them.

What he is trying to do is get a box at a decent price like we all would. And like I am sure you have done before and not get grief from a guy that drops in to give his two cents worth. Do you ever post pics zkling or just drop in threads to stir the pot just wondering.

I think 400 is way too much for this I think 200 in it'so current condition is a fair deal. When I get there I will feel him out if I feel I can get him down lower I will if not I will pay 200 for it. This is garage journal where everyone is looking to get a deal when they buy stuff and I have picked up on that and rarely pay full asking price. But I won't throw a insulting lowball offer for the chest either!

Drawer dividers, friction slides, limited depth, no deep top drawer on the bottom boxes. I leave out the small drawers because I personally find them handy, but many dislike them. I've come to realize that the efficiency just isn't there and they are more of a novelty or cheaper alternative than modern boxes. Just my take from owning many of them.

That's like saying how a car with 4 wheels can be outdated. Cool to own and drive on occasion, sure; practical for everyday driving, nope.

I've posted a number of pics on this form. I do not like posting pictures of my stuff, especially inside the shop on the public forum as I do not trust many on here, both those those post and those that do not. You may not like what I have to say, but if you step back from the emotional side, I think you will see that I more often than not provide very accurate info based on my experience. Your pal poncho guy was just too delusional and in love with craftsman to understand even when I posted pictures for him.

Full disclosure, I knew the price of the boxes before I responded in my first post. ;)

So say what you will you come at me or a guy i have got to know I am going to feed it right back to ya have a great day. Just like when i bought the dewalt drill and you have to add my buddy ponchoguy will be so disappointed. Did you really need to remark no but you did. End of conversation.

This.
I just sold a set of wheels for $150 today. Had them listed for $200 and one guy offered $100. I didn't even reply to him except to tell him they were sold.
A fair offer is made based on the value of the item; not based on the asking price.

Exactly I saw the original add for the box it said 200.00 obo the guy is fishing to see what he will get offered. As you said he can only say no i cant go lower than lets say 150.00 bingo deal struck.

I think myself and others here giving values were talking max price you could get if selling. While I think maybe you could get someone to pay $300...I sure wouldn't pay more than $170ish. But there are collector types and and newbies and one will pay more than $200 at some point. Also agree offering 1/2 on a fairly priced item is pretty lame way to negotiate. I may not chase you off, but I would go into FU mode, and if I have other interest, YOU WONT be getting any effort from me after lowballing me.

I believe if someone post a OBO than there are looking to sell it for under asking and firm me firm... Don't bother me if not willing to pay my asking. We sometimes all do it. Say we want $750 for something than we gonna ask $1000 knowing that after bargaining back and forth you'll get the price you wanted.

Exactly very well said taumac. And did you ever finish your garage reorganization.
