backto class "I think myself and others here giving values were talking max price you could get if selling."

Correct my $300-350 was max assuming box only needed a good cleaning.
As too being outdated, Its not a box I would want to work out of if I was a pro opening drawers all day. They are great for home shop.
Lowballing on price. If a seller is reasonable I would not offer 50% ($100) I would offer $150 settling $150 -200
Local CL there is a 26 inch Snap On 2pc stack condition does not look good. Asking $1000. I would not even contact seller at that price. I don`t think 10% ($100 would be a lowball offer.:eyecrazy:

JMO, but with super nice, clean original paint its a $300 box. With a REALLY nice repaint as some here do its a $400 box. As it sits I'd say its a $150-200 box which means I'd like to be into it $50-100 tops. Nice boxes but super common and not really old enough to be considered collectible.

I got a text from him and he is out of town till Monday but i am still first in line so it is basically mine! I am hoping to score it for $100 or $125 but i will pay $200 if i have to. Snap-on boxes this cheap never come around in Minnesota.

Just sold this one on craigslist for a coworker for $200. It was his dads, a 1968.

I just came back from picking it up and i bought it for $200! It is in real good shape no rust but it is missing the top box snap on emblem and the bottom drawer has bad slides. But the guy bought them already and there are new ones just not installed! It was a young guy like me selling it for his dad because he got a new one but i lost all my negotiating power because the guy went away for the weekend and now he had like 50 people interested in it i am not joking! He had another guy line up to buy it 20 minuted after me and a line of other people so i guess $200 was a steal for this box!

Not surprised at all. Hope the slide issue isn't anything serious.

I think the snap on boxes in Minnesota rarely sell cheap here so when this one came on everyone wanted it! I think if i wanted to i could easily sell it right now for $300 plus just by how many people wanted it at $200. I am keeping it tho and i am going to repaint it in the spring!

If you delete the ad on craigslist you can't respond to the people emailing you anymore! He was also gone over the weekend and just got back today and i was promised first shot at it. He even showed me his phone and he wasn't lying there were a lot of people texting him about it!

I just got it in my garage by myself wow it is build like a tank it was way heavier then i ever thought! This thing is built better then all my other tool boxes that is for sure. When i restore it this spring i will probably keep it as one of my main boxes!

I bought that exactsame box in better paint condition but with some bent drawer slides for $350 a couple years ago. It is late 1970's era. Strong sturdy toolbox, but of limited use for modern use. Good as a spare/specialty toolbox, or for non-automotive work. I have mine packed with machinist tooling.

Be aware that the drawer slides are friction slides, and are obsolete. You cannot get new ones from Snap-On. You cannot get the special tool to remove them either. You can make one out of a hacksaw blade.

Check with SO to see if tool is available. If not you can make you own out of the cheapest thinnest hack saw blade you can find. Doing an internet search for a video will give you a better idea how to remove drawer. The tool is for slipping the steel clip on the slide past the stop on the box.

So i can't take them off to repaint the boxes without the tool?

Before you decide to repaint the boxes, which is a major PIA project, at least try some good automotive compound like McGuires DACP and some elbow grease.

You can also get touch up paint direct from SO.

These things can actually clean up better then you may think.

I'd pay $400 for that setup. Can't believe how cheap some people are.:D

You can't buy a flimsy Craftsman setup like that size for under $400.

Start out at half....lol you watch to much TV. American pickers or *** monkey. If someone offered me half of what I was asking I would just say have a good day we are done here. Unless your dealing with someone who has no idea what the item is worth and they are asking way to much.

Esp when there are plenty of people saying they would pay 400 for them.

Agree on that point. A gent listed one here for $200 and like a dumb@ss I offered him $150 to which he replied (and correctly so) "I have it priced fair." I replied with "of course you do but I had to try, I'll take it for $200." By the time I sent that reply it was gone.

And I completely disagree that it's "out-dated." I have scores of them and they work great once cleaned and lubed. Good for a full time mechanic? Probably not but I love these old boxes. Hell, I have 5 or 10 so old they have no slides at all!

Cody, I have about 20 of those tools so when spring comes around if you're still having an issue getting the drawers out let me know and I'll send you one. As someone said though, you can just grind down a hacksaw blade and bend it a little and that will work fine.

Nope, but you can buy a much more useful for general auto work HF44" bottom. :D

But yet your main working box is a modern box. ;)

The paint can't be saved there is too much chipping on the outside of the box! The inside might be better but if i am going to repaint the outside i should do the whole thing so it matches right.

^^^ Yup. Those are what you need, I've made 'em out of spring steel, hacksaw blades. The originals work better. Glad you have them.
