What’s up guys! Finally became a member after being a guest for awhile.

Can someone help me figure out the maker/decade of this toolbox I picked up from a customer. Unfortunately the logos were removed and I can’t find any information on it. I searched every corner of the box. :(
Color combo reminds me of a craftsman or old Montgomery ward....but it looks like an old Proto/Dayton/Waterloo.

Please help 🙏🏼

Waterloo, Dayton, Proto, Pwr Kraft, Cornwell, Snapon, Kennedy, Talco, Craftsman, Montgomery Ward, Plomb, MAC, Matco, Homak

I agree, from google search it looks like Proto may have had that color scheme at one time.

To the OP what type of customer did you pick it up from ? Proto was typically sold to manufacturing/ industrial types customers rather than homeowners, auto mechanics, etc.

FYI Post #5 ?

WNYflyer the customer was a retired police officer, who was giving away quite a bit of stuff. He was downsizing from his city house to a small cabin. Unfortunately that was over a year ago, and I’m just now restoring the tool box. I have lots to learn but this forum seems pretty insightful Plus the quick replies. :)

d42jeep, I was wondering if they made a mid box. That’s awesome, I need to get my hands on one of those haha.
Anyone know what year they made these?, I wanna try & find the right badges to go with it

Good looking box. I'm always looking on my local classifieds but everyone thinks there stuff is worth way more than it is.

I’ve never been able to find a date code on it. I’ve had it since the late ‘70s and it wasn’t new then. It’s shown in the 1974 Proto toolbox flyer provided by bmwrd0.

Anything is only worth what somebody will give for it. I see stuff all the time that isn't worth what they are asking, but next thing ya know, it's gone. Of course, I've no idea how much it actually sold for. There's currently an old manure spreader on FB made into a "trailer", meaning they removed the mechanisms at the rear for spreading. They want IIRC $500 for it!

If some of those old boxes had ball bearings in them, I would sure like to have a shop full of them. I guess I could repaint a newer ball bearing box to look the same.
