I ran across a handful of 3/8" drive sockets from late '46 / early '47.

The 11/16" isn't marked WRIGHT, but the shape matches the rest, aside from the top turned-down section being slightly shorter. That one is plain steel. The only faint marks I can see say, 3022 11-16.

I don't come across much WRIGHT stuff. I methodically went through the socket bins that day, hoping to find more of them. The crisp edges and satin sheen made them stand out from the rest, so I'm pretty sure I didn't leave any behind.

I purchased a Wright 3500 ratchet on EBay today. I had never heard of a 3500 (3/8” drive) and turns out I couldn’t find any videos or any other ads except one on EBay. This was a vintage double pawl deluxe ratchet!!! They also made a 4500 (1/2” drive).

Pics of the 3500! I haven’t received it yet so it looks a little rough now.

It’s in good shape and it does have the dual pawl mechanism. It also has a small (x) where there is usually a date code. I found some more info from the 500A catalog probably from around 1977.

Here's an old wrench. Not sure of the application, possibly wright aircraft?

...possibly wright aircraft?
I would say assuredly. I can't find that particular number in either of the two sources I have for Wright Aeronautical tools, one a 1943 British Admiralty Fleet Order and the other the 1945 U S Army Aviation Supply Office Class 85, but almost all Wright aircraft tools had a 5-digit 8xxxx series number. I would guess Bonney. I have some wrenches made for Wright and also Gray Marine with that simple raised lettering.

FB Marketplace $20.00 box w/tools. I could see a KD 917 and some other quality items in the ad. Could only see the hex gullet jaw portion of these wrenches and assumed Cornwell. Nice little bonus to the score that they were Wright.

I pulled these out to show the evolution (as best I can) of Wright combination wrenches. The first one is from the period just before WWII (and before Wright retrenched to just making sockets and drive tools). It would be interesting to know if they made their own wrenches for the "combination sets" that appear in the 1957 and 1959 catalogs or, if not, who did. From bottom to top:
  1. "-41" BP-16 1/2"
  2. "F" (1966) 1120 5/8"
  3. "P" (1974) 1118 9/16"
  4. No date code but circa 1977 1118 9/16"
  5. "87" 1118 9/16"
  6. "96" 1118 9/16"
  7. "04J" "Patent Pending" (2004) 1118 9/16" WrightGrip 1.0
  8. 1118 9/16" WrightGrip 2.0

Here's a couple from the 30's. Early Wright combos are not easy to find.

If I had known you had one already, I might have left this one behind at today’s estate sale. Maybe it’s a little different.IMG_4230.jpegIMG_4231.jpeg

C'mon, fess up 3bay... did you pilfer those from Wright's secret archival vault? I've never seen that many together. Great collection!

Thanks. Nope, just been catching up with some Wright examples in the last few years, gathering examples from eBay mainly. The ugly condition MN-60 (most common design besides any round heads) was a local save.
Most people probably associate the brand with round heads only. They sure had some early beauties. I find it interesting that after all these, they never really delved into the pear heads. Go with what works I suppose.

Not sure if these are vintage enough (date code 1972) but I’m curious if anyone knows any details about these blow-molded sets. I haven’t seen them in any catalogs, only in the traditional Wright metal boxes.

I found some obscure references to the plastic cases being Cougar sets, but this is all original Wright hardware other than the cheaper Thorsen 1/4 sockets that were likely substituted along the way. Pretty stoked for a $10 find anyway, includes two of the neat “ten point” sockets too. Any insights from the pros here?

I dont know about your Wright branded set but Wright was supplying Powr-Kraft sets to Wards and the plastic boxes seem similar. IMG_7288.jpegIMG_7289.jpeg

Picked up this Wright socket box off the Bay (of shame) the other day. From reviewing the ITCL Wright catalog #500A from 1975, I'm thinking this box 9 1/2" x 3 3/4" x 1 3/4" is a #93 and because I have a small collection of both 1/4 & 3/8 drive sockets I'm gonna say this is a 21 PC #340 set and stock it accordingly. The1972 #110 catalog mentions boxes being two-tone. Im comfortable placing this one in the 1975 era. If anybody has any better info, please share...1000029463.jpg1000029464.jpg

This Wright 311 Set was part of my friend's estate that I purchases last year. I don't think I opened the case at the time, so I was surprised to see how nice of condition the contents were in, and the original card and price tag. Neat little set.
