Vinyl weight limit stickers

Have a 10+ year old HF engine hoist that the weight limit stickers fell off. Have labels by the holes right now but they are really too small. Thought it would be easy to find some vinyl stickers/labels that could go in place for safety reasons. Most places want a 10 each order, so the cost comes up to $100 pretty fast @ $2 X 10 X 4 + shipping. I did contact one company to see if they can do it at their no minimums. Anyone go thru this already and have a simple inexpensive solution?

Each one is about 2-3/8 by 1-1/2 inches. Image below, the one of the lift is an online photo like it was when new sort of.

In my rough order of sophistication:

Sharpie/Marker direct to painted metal

Duct tape with sharpie marker on it

Avery mailing label then laminate over the top with packing tape?

Actual laminated shipping label then stuck on with double sided tape

3d printed label

Laser engraved/rotary engraved label/plaque

Brother Ptouch label makers will do custom ( permanent) labels up to 24MM wide.
wider sizes are available but the price will go up I'm sure

I vote OLD SCHOOL! Paint larger numbers (3" stencil) and add "TON" below each with a 1/2" stencil.

Do you have access to a printer? You can buy adhesive backed sheets paper or vinyl. Be sure it matches the type of printer.

If you want I could make something like this on my label maker, these are around 1" high so not as big, but still pretty readable. I could throw them in a envelope for you. I can mess around and probably get the font bigger.

I was afraid someone would suggest an etched plaque or milled one......... I'll have to see how large my PTouch goes up to. I think it is only 3/8 or so. But if it takes something larger, that is the easiest solution.

Most local print shops can do those type of stickers while you wait. Maybe even Staples.

Know anyone who does crafts, mainly scrapbooking or paper based stuff? The Cricut machines are just small paper/vinyl cutters.. See if anyone has one.

lettering.com also gave me a quote on something exactly like the originals but in vinyl. They were willing to do one each. Thought I would post that in case anyone else has an issue like this. I will use the ones WildBill is sending. They will be more than adequate.

Not sure why you would need to wash an engine hoist down with Brakleen but okay. However, I'd bet Brakleen will take off most of the lettering from a label maker. Might have to try that one out.

I don't think the thermal transfer or whatever they are called would do that ( I'm thinking Brother Ptouch type where there are 2 layers of film & one transfers to the other ( I think)

I really don't know, I use enough Brakleen on some things but now curious about on the label maker. I'm going to try it out tomorrow on the DYMO label maker I have.

Well you see, if you happen to be using the engine hoist to hold something up and that's something has a hydraulic leak that squirts oil up onto the engine hoist, brake clean does a good job of cleaning that off

Yeah, I suppose, wasn't really thinking of using it for "other" stuff but I get that.

I don't think I've ever thought about the missing markings on my engine hoists. I know they are rated for 2 tons all the way in and I can subtract in my head half a ton for each hole going out pretty easily

Already have the mill. . . . it's just on the same pallet for the last 2 months. . . .

I don't even know if the one I bought at auction last fall has the holes marked ??? Hard to complain when it was only $65.

I typically start with it fully extended, and then keep moving it back till it quits bending so much...YMMV

On one of mine trying to lift the 10ee off the trailer. Supposed to be good for 3000# on the second hole. Doesn't act like it.

Wait a minute........am I not on the GJ Forum? You obviously need a set of laser etched or CNC machines plates cut for this. Then they will need to be TIG welded in place before vapo-blasting the whole hoist and sending it off to powder coat!!

Why even use labels ? If it bends, it’s too heavy. If it doesn’t lift it, it’s too heavy. If it tips over, it’s too heavy.

If you want to get fancy buy a sharpie

I really don't know, I use enough Brakleen on some things but now curious about on the label maker. I'm going to try it out tomorrow on the DYMO label maker I have.

Tried Brakleen, lacquer thinner and tolulene yesterday. Chemical on paper towel and a 3 second wipe on label, and didn't damage label. Honestly, I was impressed.

After wiping all three of them....

I don’t even know what my old hoist is rated for. I know when it picks the of the hoist up it’s too heavy, so I have to stand on it. I know that it will pick up heavy **** at the furthest hole, and a lot heavier **** at the nearest hole. And some medium heavy **** in the middle holes.

I read about a guy that used to test for landmines that way. He had a cousin who tested for cliffs the same way... solid solid aw sh_t
