That's pretty high, like eBay prices.---C1s are nice and a really desirable size and especially the 4 pin pipe jaws units.---But some of these Wilton aficionados need to chime in on that one.

I appreciate your quick reply‘s! The fella said he would take a little less for it so I’m on my way to get it. Don’t see a Wilton vice come up for sale around here very often. I need it so if I paid a little more for it then it’s worth I’m OK with that. I’m looking forward to dating it. Thank you very much for your help.

Look at the jaws to see if they are in good shape, also check the pipe jaws. Open it up some and see if it rattles around some, make sure the end cap is there and check to see if the swivel base locks down in case the inner ring is broke, look for cracks under the round slider, check to see if there is wear in the horseshoe washer groove on the spindle. Check to see if the handle is bent, any issues with these areas drive the price down. Good luck.

Thank you! The jaws are ok but well used. The pipe jaws are really good. The vice is tight. The end cap is there, swivel base good, haven't seen any cracks. The handle has a slight bend but you have to look for it.

The four pins that hold the pipe jaws in place, one is missing. Will that be hard to find?

As for age, the guy I bought it from is 69. Said he remembers the vise in his dad's shop when he was young.

As for the date on the key, it is unclear. What would you say it is? It is not a 4, 5, 7, it could be the bottom of a 6 or 8.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but...

What was the original paint color used for the Williams Vulcan No. 2 pipe vise (chain vise)?

I picked one up that was a disaster, heavy rust, six colors of paint and a LOT of caked-on grease. After much on and off cleaning it's time for paint. My default is almost always hammertone pewter, but I'm open to suggestions as original color is fine - if I knew what it was.

I was gifted a Wilton vise that is in sad shape. I’ve taken it apart and started cleaning all of the parts but I’ve noticed there are some parts that need to be replaced like the jaw pads and screws as well as one of the jaws seems to have a piece broken off. Do you think it’s worth continuing to restore this or is it trash?

Go to eBay and do a search on sold Wilton vises. I think that you'll be surprised what the value is for the Wilton machinist vise: restored, unrestored and parts.

It's definitely not trash.

It's your vise, paint it whatever color you like. The original colors are listed in the 1960 catalog below.

Really depends on how far you want to go in a restoration, I bought one very almost as bad as yours from a weld shop and it was trashed. Took me a while but after I was done I made a little profit on it and it went back to work if like me your labor is free. Here is my sales page from 2016.

If you want a challenge then go for it. Good luck.

Poor form to keep posting for sale ads in the general forum. Hate to tell you, but you're not getting any action on your ad in the classifieds because your price is whacked. Those exposed screw home owners vises aren't worth anywhere near that kind of money, never mind the $300. you started with. I typically buy those for $5. or $10., $40. would be all the money to sell one IMO.

Thank you Fierljeppen, any idea if the 63-1/2 is older or newer than the 94?

The No.94 is from (1939-1948). When Prentiss merged with Parker in 1948, Parker changed their utility vise to No.63-1/2 and only offered the same size that Prentiss was offering. The No.63-1/2 was offered from (1948-1965), after which Parker made style changes to almost all of their vises.

You can see the similarities in the catalog scans for Prentiss and Parker utility vises after 1948.

Hi, I'm searching for some parts. Found a rusty dirty vise, totally disassembled, in a box last week at a garage sale and picked it up for $5. Turned out to be a swivel base Athol 623 1/2. Put the vise back together and it works great but it's missing the bottom screw to attach the swivel base to the vise as well as the locking lug and accompanying handle. (sort of explains why it was in pieces ;) ) If anyone has those parts laying around and doesn't need them please let me know. thanks

The screw is called a Shoulder Bolt. Those are made custom for your vise. The design of a shoulder bolt is when it is tightened the larger precision shoulder that fits the swivel base ID should alow about .010-.015 of clearance so the base is not loose and will still spin. Gotta match the threads in the Static.

You could possibly find a bolt that matches the hole and a pipe or sleeve that matches the OD of the thread and ID of the swivel base and have it a little taller then the swivel base thickness and make one to get by. Good Luck.

KMScott- thanks for the reply and the suggestion. I have another 623 1/2 that's 100% together and used that shoulder bolt as a test fit in the vise that's missing one. From there it was off to the hardware store with the bolt where after due consideration the 'helpful hardware man' told me 'we don't carry screws like this". lol
Your idea makes a ton of sense but every time I'd look at that vise it would remind me that I jury-rigged it. Giving the search a little more time than it's off to my local machine shop buddy. thanks again

When I run into this I use a std bolt and turn a shouldered bushing on the lathe, works just as good as a 1 piece. Could even use a bolt, washer, and bushing. Up to you how much of a project you want to make out of it, but all methods work equally well.

Here is an unmarked Ratchet Vise or Vice. Possibly European? Anyone seen one like it.

KM, sorry can't shed any light on the unmarked vise but enjoyed the picture of the Rock Island #60, that's quite a beast.

Very cool. Wonder if there is any tie-in with the Pinch Bug I just found.

Maybe Fierljeppen can help with a catalog page of your Pinch Bug. I added the link to your post.

I've got nothing for the Akron "Pinch-Bug" vise. Too bad, JR Long vises are sooooo cool.

I did find a 1922 ad for Akron Vise & Tool Co., but I couldn't find anything tying the Akron Wrench and Vise Co. with the Akron Vise & Tool Co., although they both seemed to be producing vises around 1922.

KMS, will we ever see an exhaustive list of all the vises produced, excluding contemporaries of course?---I think not, cause you are always finding more units that have never been seen before.---I hope you never find that last specimen.

That ratchet unit looks British to me, possibly German.
