That Ridge is pretty neat, chopsaw. Nice find. I imagine there aren't many around.
Hi guys,
When I was digging through my vise collection to get out the Rock Island 390 (thanks again for all the info) I pushed this one aside.
Now that I'm re-organizing I remember buying it for $30 and still think it's a very cool vise. I should do something with it...
Didn't see it in the catalog, Simplex/Ridge 42CPSN sheet metal workers vise, 4.5" jaws and 24" in length closed.

KM,
Thanks for the reply.
Here is a Reed 23-1/2 Utility vise that's different from what I saw on the spreadsheet. I found it interesting because I didn't know that Reed made a light duty vise. Although it looks like a homeowner's vise, it's just as robust as their heavier duty models.
Details:
* Make/Model: Reed 23 1/2.
* Manufactured by: Reed Manufacturing Co. Erie, PA. USA.
* Estimated manufacture date: Circa 1960s.
* Jaw measurement information;
Width = 3-1/2".
Opening = Over 4-1/2".
Depth = 2-1/2".
* Features lightly serrated, removable jaw faces and cast in pipe jaws.
* Anvil surface measurements; 2-1/2" x 2".
* 3 hole swivel mount with 360° rotation and 2 lock handles.
* Overall measurements of vise;
Height = 6".
Length = 11".
Width = 7".
* Weight; 23#.

A 1912 catalog scan for the Parker no. 46-1/2 Coach Makers' vis.

That Boker looks exactly like an early Athol. I just compared it to my Athol no. 77 and every feature looks the same: support shelf, pinned handle, meatball, body shape and even the screw retaining clip. The Athol no. 79, 3" jaw vise lists @ 18 lbs.
Nice pickup 454ragtop!

The Meadville Vise Co. vises are pretty rare. The Barrett Bros. had some really interesting designs. I just wish there were more out there to see.
Here's a Meadville vise no. 31, with a 1892 catalog scan of the other sizes.
Oh that's nice KMS.---That's a prize.---Has flared handle ends like the 519 Craftsman's.
