Vise stand from a 3"x24" screw jack

This jack is as big as I've seen, 3" diameter screw.
I like the soft curves of the jack and harrow disc.
The concept is to tilt and roll, to move it, if I can get the geometry and center of gravity right.

Made a tire for the edge of the disc out of 5/8" round bar, to soften it up and ease the blows to the feet and ankles.
Also got the base welded to the disc, the jack body bolted to the base and it looks like the balance is about right.
The look reminds me of a mushroom for some reason.

Cut the top of the nut off, to make a jam nut out of it.
Alarm bell to serve as part of the hand wheel for the jam nut.

I was scoping out a buddy's bone pile today and came up with a 2" flanged shaft that fits a couple bearings I have in my pile. This is a good start to a horizontal swivel.

This set up will include a 4" Reed coach maker vise that is currently on an all position stand that works, but not well.
Roller bearings and a counterweight should help with making the design better.

Started making a hub today.

A little headway on the hub and axle today.
Made a brake shoe that will be driven by a screw and nut from a bridge clamp.
Opposite of that, will be positive stops at 90-45-0-45-90

Made a couple hand wheels out of some ring gaskets and then our well standpipe went gunnysack.
Seems like this **** always happens on the weekend.
Managed to get some pipe today and moved a hoist over, to yard up on it.
Fingers crossed that I don't drop the SOB

Just sit down for lunch after successfully getting the pump pulled.
The rigging is kind of hillbilly, but worked.
The first joint coming out of the pump was rotted in two.

Did not work on any vise today, but by golly after 5 joints of new stand pipe, we are making water.
It was a fine day, with the best of company.

Brake nuts welded to hub,
Mount plate scarfed off old stand,
Cut adjustable counterweight pieces.

I was worried the positive rotation lock had too much shear on it, so opted to augment it with a spring plunger. Index holes 15 degrees apart, at a 3-3/8" radius

Where'd you find that at Royce?. I used this style on a recent piece of equipment I developed and it works perfect for this application but I'm always looking for other styles that may be a better fit. This one is a 1/2" plunger with a 90 degree turn locking handle

Thanks. I don't remember what I paid for these but they weren't cheap either as I got them from McMaster.

I'll share, but hate garbaging up your thread with my nonsense .

Three years ago I had a project where we needed to replace 2200 slider lock assemblies for a jail. I watched our field crew manhandling all these doors that weigh anywhere from 300 to 500lbs and decided to come up with something to make everyone's life a bit easier. So long story short what you see here is V3 (V3 allows for pivoting a swing door so you can egress it thru its own opening whereas the previous versions just laid them back flat). This allows one man to grab a door (self-center acme screw clamp actuated assembly) whether it be a slider or swing and do anything and everything possible with no real effort. These things reduced my labor burden down to a quarter on the dollar and increased my safety margin by 95%.

Wish we could pm pictures. I bet you’d really like how I did the self centering clamp system. It’s kinda cool. Unfortunately I won’t share those pics publicly or even with my own company. I built it so the system is serviceable but unless you know how it goes together you’d have to destroy it to figure it out. Lol.

Finished up the index plate, made a dust cap and tacked off the vise mount, today

Rooted through the pile and chose a cast iron ball for the counterweight and welded the hub to the 3" screw.
This functions nicely, but is rough around the edges, and suits me fine.
Makes me think of Rube Goldberg!

Got the spring plunger mounted and also filled the base with a couple hundred pounds of lead.
With the added lead, it's tough to tip, thinking it needs a lever to help tip it.
