Let me start off by saying the reason we decided to build this garage was because of seeing other threads on this forum. I introduced my dad to garage journal about 8 months back and we have both been surfing the forums for some time. We both joked around about the idea of building a garage for a few months. I made a quick model in sketchup of a garage on our property and showed it to my dad. We both had ideas on improving the design and eventually we came upon something along the lines of this:

Picture2-1.png

A friend of ours owns a construction company so we called him up and got a quote just for fun. Next thing I know, my dad had convinced my mom that we need this garage. She agreed it would be nice, but only if it looked like a barn.
With that said, the construction started May 1st and has been truckin' along since. The new garage is 30'x30' with 12.5' ceilings. It will have one large 18' door on the front, and one 8' door on the side. The 8' door is going to be the work bay with a lift. The 18' door is going to be used for me to park one (two if it fits) of my old bmw's in and for my mom to park. Enough talking, here's some pictures.

The hole for foundation dug

I wasnt able to make it down to my parents house for a few days so the next time i saw it, it looked like this:

Trusses arrived:

a few days later:

floor poured:

We've had lots of rain recently and this is how it sits now:

Gable over the door for the bay with the lift in it:

Once theres more progress i'll post pictures. We just finished priming the siding (shiplap) which will be a nice barn red when we're done.

Very nice! Welcome to the board, and pics of what will be stored in there, I think I saw something about old BMWs??

yup! you did. My dad has been in the car industry for over 30 years so naturally i've grown up loving cars. Bmw's are our family thing sort of.. I don't have any pictures of the cars together really just a few odd ones.
I have a 2002 325xi
dillsdna-1.jpg

also an 88 325ix:
IMG_0189.jpg

and an 86 325es (90k miles! this is an old picture from when i bought the car so the from bumper hadn't been painted yet)
IMG_0010.jpg

Im always buying and selling them and i'm excited that i have a place to finally work on them. Laying under a car on jackstands in the winter isn't fun.
Where in VT? Colchester here! Looking forward to watching your project.
Nice! good to see another vermonter on here. We are in Charlotte.

Some more progress. The windows are in (except the two transoms) and siding is starting to go up.

They're not old! Old BMWs hail from the 1970s and earlier :lol_hitti

The windows are Marvin Integrity Series....they are a composite like Trex decking....had to special order them......I wanted all trim to be as low maintainance as possible.......less time with a paint brush and rollers etc!!!

http://www.integritywindows.com/

The actual Barn Red does not photograph well......it looks a bit darker when you see it....2nd coat darkened it even a bit more.......lift is here and going in Saturday.....will post pics after install......:):)

Thank you! We're really excited about finishing the job up. We purchased a compressor the other day but haven't hooked it up yet. Let the fun begin!

The transom windows and the vertical wood siding are subtle details that really add to the classic "barn" look...job well done. What is your next step for the interior?

The next step for the interior is the ceiling. We're planning on getting some more unpainted pine clapboard to cover it.
Great looking place! I love the look. :bounce:

Did you do all the design work in Sketchup? Was this a plan from a book?

Thanks! I did the design work in Sketchup. I was an industrial design major my first year in college and played around with Sketchup a ton.

Hey guys it's been a while since this was updated. Currently we are working on insulating the garage. We have the compressor all hooked up and the heater hung. I've made some vehicle changes the last couple of months as well.

and for the e30 guys:
I sold this

and i also sold this
IMG_6018.jpg

Sold the other red 325es and I bought a 92 (last year e30) vert the picture is with a semi fish-eye lens so it pinches the garage in the background:

I also sold the porsche and we got a 97 328ic for my mom as a summer ride (winter ride is a 2010 328i x-drive)
