I have a couple of those garden-variety overhead floodlights. You know the kind – one is mounted on the front of my garage at the peak and lights my whole dooryard and parking area. The other one is on a pole at the end of my used car lot and cast light over the whole thing. I believe they are mercury vapor?
Both of them are at least 20 years old and the photocells have gone bad so they stay on 24 hours unless I turn them off. I was going to replace the photocells, but I figured that now might be the time to upgrade to more efficient lighting if it exists.
I did a quick search and saw that they do make LED outdoor floodlights, one being called the yard blaster. My assumption is that these would be much more efficient than the old lights I have. And I figure that if I'm going to go up that high in the air, I might as well go for new and the most efficient there is.
To those that know about these things, is LED the way to go? Is there something even better? I saw one site that claims they are 85% more efficient than the old-style. Anyone have any real experience on this?
Any knowledgeable input on this would be much appreciated.
