Walker 925 bottle jack repair

Picked up a freebie Walker 925 series D 3 ton bottle jack today. The ram moved smoothly until the seal began to leak around the handle piston. I was able to remove the spanner nut with a punch (nut was previously damaged in the same manner) and remove the deteriorated seal in pieces. What would be the correct name for the spanner needed to remove the cylinder nuts on these units? I am not going to remove the GOOD nuts in the same manner as the previously damaged one.

There is NO Tool that can be purchased to remove that tank nut, it was a specialty tool that Walker utilized to prevent "Unauthorized" service centers from working on there product line. With that said.. You can make a socket with some minor fab work that will remove the nut, expect it to be torqued down considerably. Absolutely do not use a punch or air hammer.. It will only damage the nut (I've seen them cracked in two) and won't even think of loosening a factory torqued tank nut.

I suspect that the nut I removed was previously tightened to stop a leak since there were peen marks from a punch in the clockwise direction. I'd prefer to only fix the seals that are bad, but I know the others aren't far behind.

Is there any way to tell the DOB of this unit? Under the red paint is the original blue/green and a few casting numbers on the baseplate.

I know of NO way to Date those Jacks, I can tell you with great confidence that its well over 50 years old and Maybe closer to 70. That Inner spanner nut is there to tighten the packing and take care of any start up leakage, Those older jacks utilized Leather Ram seals and they arent as Clean as todays poly's (especially on Startup). Obviously its Yours but there arent very many components to the Jack, It would be silly to only Re-seal the Ram.

Just for Clarification, There are Tools for the Inner Spanner nut... It requires a Adjustable face spanner or the Properly sized fixed type (Pay close attention to the Pin size, If you decide to buy one). The Tank Nut is the one that requires a specialty tool...

I'm not against using new leather seals but are there any modern alternatives in case I decide to do a full reseal? I might be able to whip up a tool from some scrap steel and a few pieces of keyway stock.

You can find Poly/Buna Piston seals, But Leather is gonna be the way to go.. It lasts much longer when installed correctly.

Hi, I was reading your repair post regarding the walker 925 jack, I collect usa / Canadian jacks here in the uk and am missing the 925 from the collection. Would you consider selling it to me?.
