Hey Guys, I'm sure there is a Walmart thread, but I went back a few pages and gave up searching...

I walked through lawn and garden in my local Walmart, and two women were busy doing markdowns. I was surprised that the woman with the gun was just deciding how much to put on each item, and it often depended on how much was left of each individual item. There was some lawn starter fertilizer, a bunch of it, that retailed for $25 bucks a bag, and she decided on a buck per bag. Most of the seasonal items she was marking at 75%-90% off, I walked out with two shopping carts full. Got $40 grow lights for $5: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Grow-Light/51036713

I heard the worker say she was done for the day and would finish the rest Monday, I was waiting for her to get to the tools, axes, chainsaw chains... etc. and she stopped at that point. I asked her when she would resume, and she said, grab what you are interested in. I grabbed a Fiskars Maul, $20 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fiskars-751110-1001-36-in-8-lb-Maul/50812453. I will go back Monday and see what kind of mood she is in when she marks down the rest of the aisle!

If you need anything lawn and garden related, good time to buy it!

When I worked at Farm & Fleet we had the discretion to price broken bags (which there are a lot of) and odd ball stuff, but not mass clearance. I find it odd they'd be careless enough to let all of that slip down to someone making min wage unless it's all discontinued merchandise, or that lady was a manager. For a buck a bag F&F would have sat on that fertilizer until the next year.

Yeah I've got some good deals on fertilizer (I think $2/bag) and other L&G at Walmart too... They usually get rid of fertilizer or seed because they are either changing brand, no longer stocking, or its seasonal and they want to make room for the winterizer soon.

Also my L&G area they clear most stuff out to use for Fall Decorations & Christmas...

Each walmart seems to kind of do their own thing with clearance pricing. Some I've seen start at like 25% to 50% off and can sit for weeks or months... Others go straight for like 75%-90%... Also it can just depend on the time of year, there's a couple times when they do mass-refreshes so they have a LOT they want to get rid of to make room for the new product.

Also if you see an employee marking something down that you are interested in, it doesn't hurt to ask if they can mark it down any lower.

One trick I do with Walmart is generally prices are cheaper online. I’ll go check something out I want when I’m getting groceries or something and compare. If it’s during the day I can generally pick it up same day if not I just go back another time. I live very close so it’s not a huge deal to go back. I saved around $5 on some 3 ton jack stands and $5 on the Stanley 1/2 metric sockets. I was going to do harbor freight but this is an almost complete set for just a few bucks more.

Walmart doesn't do price-matching against other stores anymore, but they *will* pricematch their online price (if it's sold by walmart.com) in-store...

Though there are always lots of promo's for buying from walmart.com from various websites & apps... If you do that you can save even more.

This.
Our local stores in Northern VA don't seem to mark down clearance stuff very much. We were in a WM in Lubbock TX, and couldn't believe the clearance deals they had.

A lot of stores have a policy now that if a customer points out a defect they won't discount the item. Too many customers purposely damaging items to get a discount. The only way to get a discount is if the store had already marked a discount on the item.

This but it's poor business practice IMO. I just sent the gf for a toner cartridge for my laser printer. I first researched online and WM had it same price as Amazon, and showed in-stock for pickup at my local store. I did not place an online pickup order, though, because I did not want to subject my gf to waiting at the customer svc desk which always has a ridiculous line. It's ALWAYS faster to go into the store and get what you need.

Anyway the cartridge came up $5 more in-store, which is fawking stupid. I did go back and they "price matched" the difference, and the employee was actually really cool and competent, so that was nice.

But in the future I'm not playing games w researching WM online only to find a different price in-store. I'll just order from Amazon at a KNOWN price and have it come to my door.

What's the point of researching online if the price is different once you get there?

Around here, the usual discount on clearance stuff at the large stores is only like 10-20% off.

They will match the online price at the checkout if you show them on your phone...done it maybe 20 times on all sorts of things...the one caveat is it has to be sold by Walmart and not a third party

If you use the Walmart app, it will tell you the walmart.com price vs in-store price (and inventory, and even location in the store).

Their .com site is a different business entity than the regular stores, that is why the prices can fluctuate between the two... But as other's have said, if you just show them on your phone the walmart.com price when checking out they will adjust it then and there, takes 2 seconds...

In the past year they have put in those self-serve kiosks for pickup (unless it's a big item). You just go up to the machine and it scans the barcode from the email they send when it's ready. It does its thing, door opens, and there is your item. Before the machine, they had an 'express' lane in customer service for pickups.

Prices can even vary between stores... Like most around here have milk @ $3.38/gal... But a couple have them at $1.38... Or other items might be full price while another store just down the street is clearance it out... Makes no sense...

I heard on Facebook people were getting these grills for 40 or 50 dollars sadly not in my area though.

Full price at my stores. Though usually in the fall they will clearance out all the grills on-hand to make room for Halloween & Christmas stuff...

Just ran back up there to see what the rest of the aisle was marked down to, but the employee was busy trying to move stuff out of the aisle to consolidate to one, because they needed more room for back to school. I asked when she would get to the rest and she insisted that I just bring her what I want, I brought all of the Fiskars axes over, she told me if I bought all the quantity, I could have them for $5. Sold. I didn't want to keep bothering her though, so she said she'll get to it tomorrow. I'm on vacation this week, so I'll probably run up there again tomorrow, but I pretty much cleaned her out. All my family and friends will be hooked up on fertilizer, weed killer, grass seed, landscape fabric... all just way too cheap to pass up!

Nice! I was at WM earlier today but totally forgot to look in L&G... I need to go back this week anyhow to take some used oil so I'll try to remember to check then.

FYI, if you use the Walmart App on your phone, it WILL show the clearance price of an item. Just click on "At Your Store" tab at top after searching. You can even change stores in your area to see if one might have something another doesn't...

LOL... Yeah the app also has a barcode scanner, I will sit there in the clearance isle at my store sometimes scanning stuff checking prices... Much faster than the price-check terminals (which usually half the time don't even work).

This is absolutely not true unless you have an employee/manager that doesnt care I guess. They will not match their online prices. Happened to me last year when I tried and just recently happened to a friend of mine. I was blown away that they wouldnt match a walmart.com clearance price in a store.

I've had them match a clearance priced item several times before, specifically last time was a cooler that even though was in the clearance section at a certain price, it was marked down even more online.

I shop at the super center that is (literally) across the street from Walmart corporate, so everyone there is usually bending over backwards to be helpful and courteous... It's a pretty different mentality there than your normal Walmart across the country...

one Walmart in my area has wifi digital meat thermometers for smokers and bbq's on clearance for $11, regular price $39.99. I picked up 2 and hit another Walmart but they have NOTHING on clearance yet.

last winter they clearance out cowboy "lump" charcoal for $3 a bag and I bought a whole pallet.

not much else yet but roundup is $15 gal and a no name is $7 a gal. I bought 3 of the no-name (blue jug) with the sprayer and they work as good as round up on grass and weeds. $7 is a pretty good price IMO...

20lb ant killer bag clearance $7.50

Clearance prices are different at every store! Every time I go back to the location with the huge discounts, if something is left, it is marked down even more. I wonder if they will pricematch their own clearance prices from days ago... I am going to at least try and see!

They are putting out Halloween, so if your local Wally World hasn't clearanced lawn and garden out, they will soon.

They are doing a "refresh" at 2 of my local stores, and use the outdoor lawn and garden area for storing stuff. If your store is doing a "refresh," that's where the huge discounts are, they need to get it out of the store.

Look up item on Walmart website. Then last number in URL is sku number. Go to brickseek and check prices in your ZIP code.

Or instead of brickseek, you can use the walmart app and it will show in-store prices (and you can click a link on the item page to show the stores in your area w/price and availability)... If you use brickseek you run the risk of letting their paying members know of any deals and grabbing them out from under you.

My store the L&G area right now is back to school, but they have several isles of "clearance" toys (even those big battery powered cars kids ride in). I noticed they are slowly shifting from 'back to school' to fall & halloween though...

I'm sure it's not a great saw, but I don't have one yet and recently needed one so I figured when I saw this on Brickseek for $9, I should grab it.

Skil Circular Saw
https://www.walmart.com/ip/SKIL-5080-01-7-1-4-Inch-13-Amp-Circular-Saw/52897894

Also grabbed the older model of the Hyper Tough 2.0-Amp Palm Sander for $3.50.

Not really tool related, but my wife was thrilled to pick up a Shark Rotator Powered Lift-Away Upright Vacuum Cleaner for $64 (still showing $259 on Walmart.com)

I think Brickseek is gonna become my new favorite site :) Does anybody pay for their premium features? Is it worth it?

Saws all still $39.99 around me

-The Great

Yeah, Walmart is weird with clearance. It varies store to store. Most stores near me have it for $39, but Brickseek said one store near me had one in stock for $9 and sure enough I found the last one sitting up high on a shelf.

Yes $90 is a good deal. Believe they are made in Canada so quality should be on par.

Also seen stanley; and WM house brand- hyertough tool chests on clearance in early January. Their house name brand is made in USA by Waterloo fyi.

I went back tonight to search for any more BBQ clearance and they had a lot of accessories on clearance. I bought about 15 different nice accessories for about 80% off: weber, pitt boss, charbroil, etc. They had Weber iGrill Minis for about $5 each - I bought 3 because they were so cheap and the app apparently supports multiple units.
